4WD VS 2WD question..

I am going to support the OP here. It’s his money. If he wants to burn it that’s fine.

Invariably, he’s going to have to sell the cheap parts and someone on here will grab a bargain. Its a win-win. OP gets to scratch his itch and soon, someone will be able to buy those parts for a dirt-cheap price when the OP realises his mistakes.

@solice77 Go ahead with the 4WD. No need to listen to anyone.

I didn’t even consider how he’s left with 2 4.xx no heatsink vescs in the back as soon as he hits any loose terrain. Damn…
Ok, let’s be serious, at room temperature in open air convection those things hit thermal limit in 40 seconds, demonstrated by Vedder. In an enclosure i expect that time to be close to half. This build gets 20 seconds of full 4wd, 2 current shunt acceleration and then delivers the power of a £300 meepo until it’s left to cool down for a few minutes. Meanwhile a dual 6374 with a decent 6.xx based vesc pushes 70A on each motor at any moment, under any duration, and can be easily boosted to 90-100A/motor in case he could still stand on his feet at 140A total.

@mutantbass who would end up buying these? On a forum where you can find a full set of matrix 2 trucks with wheels for around £200 if you’re patient, who still hunts for the bottom of the aliexpress barrel? These parts belong on reddit and facebook groups at 90% of the purchase costs, here he’d be called out immediately on the value of them. Vescs and motors would go for around £30 each and not much else

lol… I think an appropriate name for my board will be ‘The Hated 1’. It’s quite fitting, and it has a kind of nice redeeming quality to it being such an underdog, and if I ever build a second one, it could be ‘The Hated 2’, cause people will probably also hate it… launch a whole new line of Hateds…

i mean i’m pushing 120a thru each of my vesc 6s, tbh i’d rather use rc car escs instead of vesc 4.2s

Man this thread is full of the weirdest opinions…

Why would you want to use RC escs over 4.12… That makes no sense to me

simply because rc car escs produce crap loads of power and are pretty bullet proof

Yeah but the brakes are nowhere near as good (allegedly)

And near no customizability

i can confirm the brakes are iffy and i wouldn’t recommend to use a car esc. there is a lil bit of customizability, but the punch that they can give is amazing. (these are just my opinions, i still prefer my trampa vesc 6s over rc car escs)

Flipsky vesc 4.20 are perfectly fine for lower power boards. They have the same great control like all the other 4.xx vesc. You get all the nice vesc accessories like metr and vx2 remote. They are just not great for higher loads. I run 4 of them on my hub board 40A motor 25A battery and they are super smooth compared to rc esc.

totally agree with 4.2 are ok on lower power boards. i’m just more off a power nut and prefer to have punch especially on an emtb. rc car escs are by no means a good choice, just my preferred option over 4.2 for an emtb

please just do some research on the forum first :anguished:

Guys its okay, atleast hes not trying to put a triple stack pack in a 3d printed bottom mount enclosure… On a flexy deck…

These 2 should put their minds together and make a single board lol.
One single haero bro deck board in 4wd with a solid enclosure and range to cross entire cities.
…or somehow the worst of both, if that is even imaginable

Mine?

You spend 3k on 2wd didn’t you

Upgrade to 4wd no problem

1.5k more?
That in total will be almost a 1 year insurance in the uk for a £350 corsa lol

this thread reminds me of the other guy where everyone gets to vote if he’d be able to finish in ‘2 days’ or 20+ days.

Wheres that thread again? XD

That one was fun

Well… here’s my build, so far, took way longer to make than I anticipated, but it was a lot of fun:

The turn radius on this thing is hideous. I need a new deck as some had mentioned. What are some good options?

I am thinking either:

Trampa carver (holypro?) 150-175 quid
Trampa holypro 4wd 250 quid (out of stock)
Trampa HS11 165 quid
Haero Bro 300 quid? website not loading
MBS DWII 199 usd

This thread they favor the Prototipo but I can’t find it: Favorite Carver Deck (whose your favorite new kid, call me donnie)

And most people seem to like the Bro in general. I personally am attracted to the concave of the Trampas. But I don’t know what’s best.

And for Trampas would one choose the “stiffest” option as people say they are like a trampoline, bouncy bouncy, even the “stiff” ones.

This video the holy pro turn radius is better in general it seems, less width?

But the Bro is better for jumps, which I may or may not get into. I care more about turn radius.

Both decks look amazing though. Don’t really like the look of the MBS DW11 and the tips concern me.

The springs on my trucks are the stiffer version of the cheap aliexpress L Faster trucks, so I think changing those, if possible, for something like Elastomere dampers or barrels as he mentions could be good, or even the “less stiff” springs.

I also need a non-trashy looking enclosure. I picked out this one to see if it would work https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013Z73SYE

It’ll arrive tomorrow. But it seems kind of bulky. These are the inner dimensions I actually need:

The camera case is a bit expensive $64 but it fits the bill except for length is more than I need.

Anyway, I am glad I went 4WD even though I’ve only ridden a few times and have no point of reference. I went up some steep rocky hills so far. Did the job remarkably well. Been riding on Low and sometimes medium. A very slow crawl up this hill required the High setting, but it managed. Can’t stand still without bindings, so I might get some at some point. I’ll update more as I ride it and get to go on some trails whence I can actually turn well lol

Oh yeah and I ran over a rattle snake yesterday, it was scary/fun/sad and shocking all at the same time, sigh… he was ok as when I came back he wasn’t there anymore, hopefully he just went home… It was a precarious situation because I was going too fast to notice it in time, to the point were had I slowed down or stopped I would have not ran it over but been so close it could have stricken me, so it was a last second reflex/defense to just go over it… and when I looked back and stopped it seemed like it was doing alright. It’s funny cause I had been thinking that might happen at some point here in San Diego, but I didn’t think it would be literally on my 2nd ride…
