Just finished my DD build with my 38" and It’s so cool.
Im looking at the 40" for my personal build. Im super excited 
Around how tall are you? Do you find the 38" comfortable enough or do you think the extra length of the 40" would be beneficial?

I’m 1. 80 m, it’s perfect for my needs but if you’re a fast driver go for the 40 which is anyway easier to find

I’d still worry about motors smashing into rocks riding off road.
More clearance is always better for off road vehicles.

You can have a hard steel plate under the motors, you’ll sacrifice another 10mm but if it’s supported on either end of the can itll probably hold up as long as the motor itself would survive the deceleration of landing

Doesn’t matter.
Less clearance for off road = bad in my book.
it’s just a higher chance of bottoming out and not being able to make it through the terrain that you’re ridding.
