Wiring in a receiver

Afternoon everyone,

Could I please ask for some help surrounding wiring in the remote receiver to the ESC?

I have an Alien remote as it sounded good and I’m in the UK. It came with the remote, battery, charge cable and the receiver. I kinda expected it to arrive with some wires to connect to an ESC but I guess compatibility would make that difficult with DIY builds.

My question is how to I know which wires go where?

Okay cool, so the receiver only requires 3 wires.

My receiver has 3 pins per channel. I assume I only need to use channel 1. I just need to know which wires go to which pins. And I would just directly solder the wires to the pins right?

soldering to the pins makes it kinda a mess for reuse.

you can get pre-crimped jst connector kits to build your own connector for the vesc side.

and solder it to some JR/Futaba connetors on the other.

or get crimping supplies. (and engineer PA-09) tho there’s some learning curve there.

So maybe I could use the JST that came with the VESC and then just buy a 3 pin female Futaba connector for the receiver.

Still unclear which wires go where. The receiver has a symbol I don’t recognise, a plus sign and a negative sign?

it’s signal, positive, negative.

The signal carries the pwm(ish) servoControl throttle signal.

the symbol you see is of a square wave.

Nice! So the square wave is for PPM. The positive is for 5v and the negative is for the ground.

Just ordered a JR connector kit, should be in business…

might be channel 2 on the receiver. usually in RC channel 1 is steeering. channel 2 is throttle.

not that the manual makes it super clear.

There is no PPM. The Go FOC DV6s is mislabeled.

Both the DV6s and your remote receiver use PWM or pulsewidth control.

These are almost always colored white, red, and black, respectively.
