In the discussion of what one can actually buy today in the way of a nice remote, someone pined for a wired remote. Why is this not a thing today?
Having really enjoyed a test ride on a scooter with a beautiful knurled aluminum bi-directional throttle/brake, I’d like to carry the same at the end of a bar stub, at the end of a coiled phone cord.
If it goes tumbling, who cares? Skating past Lollapalooza? Who cares? Cord rips out by the roots? Who cares? (You’ve got a new $3 cord in your pocket.)
I swear I saw such a beast for $50 several years ago, now crazy folk are asking $150-200 for a fancy wheel. No idea what this one costs, but sawed-off, this is the general idea…
Noodling on failure mode when cord severed… No way can ADC be used. What happens if a PPM signal suddenly disappears completely? If this can be treated as mid-throttle (neither braking nor power) by VESC, the circuit to make PPM from a pot or hall sensor is already sold as a commodity part for under $7 = a servo tester. Consider teh phone cord to carry PPM, +5V, Gnd. I need to see what happens & if I can force coasting when PPM wire disco. Can anyone who’s had a ppm remote wiring or receiver failure speak to what happens? (Not counting dead remote battery)
I think it’s same as what happens when it loses UART remote. it keeps the last throttle signal it received til the timeout (500ms default). then goes neutral.
I’ve had the same thought over the years. I have not had many issues with bluetooth connectivity and I’ve heard there are rarely problems even with many riders around, but I feel it would be really easy to jam or hijack if someone was dedicated to it.

it’s just with UART people find the problem on cutout, so it’s more familiar.
with servo control (blah ppm) the receiver usually covers for them, and goes to neutral.
but if you were to cut the cable betwen the receiver and the vesc it’d be the same.
