Why electric boards?

So I’m 47 years old and skated since I was probably 15 and at first it was scary and that’s what got me so interested, then I fell in love with everything from street and ramp to speeding down hills and sliding as far as I could so when I saw an electric skateboard I just thought I can ride all day and not have to push!! I’m older so pushing isn’t as fun as when your 15 so it allows me to just enjoy the forever carve! I’m so digging it so I’m thankful for this forum and would like se hear what got you into this crazy stuff.

Same here skated in my teens doing some freestyle and some park stuff.
But just as you said it’s nice not to push.
I’m 55 and once in awhile I’ll ride my old board.
Still can do handstands but not as long. Except my form is not as good as it was when I was a teenager.

I was a bored motherfucker looking for ways to join adrenalin and creativity. 6 years forward, I still am a motherfucker, but not bored anymore I think :beers:

I kept waking up for class late and I lived on the far end of campus, so I needed a way to get to class faster. Also I’m lazy AF and love building WAY too much :joy:

I was trying to build diy motorized vehicles in some form or another nearly as long as I can remember.

Started off hose clamping a motor to a skateboard truck with the gear on the motor pressed against the wheel, it was fun but everything failed before I got to the end of my road.

I was trying to build something with real power many years later in life, purely focused on “max performance” for minimal budget. So I got parts from hobbyking totaled ~$380 plus a longboard and RC remote I had, and ripped around until the belt broke. Tried to just upgrade the battery and several thousand dollars later here I am with 4 integrated decks about 7 drivetrains and enough batteries to have two+ packs per board.

Currently lacking in ESCs but luckily there are many on the horizon.

I never skated growing up, there was no one around who did it. I had a cheap mountain board I would ride down hills and have a blast on that I got at a beach shop once. I got married, moved to suburbia, and found a house with a huge park and lake attached to it. I was getting tired of not being able to explore everything fast enough and noticed all the great hills and woods and got to thinking about attaching some mtb trucks to the front end of an electric scooter. It was pure shit but gold at the time. Then I saw everyone else was doing it better and cleaner and I leveled up.

I hate walking.
I broke my arm on my electric bicycle so could ride my bike, my motorcycle or drive my car(manual in-city driving) for 6 months
looking for a solution I found a giant lead-acid ‘skateboard’ for 200$ on craiglist.
a year and 1/2 later, I’ve built a pretty good board, fixed most of the flaws of the craiglist board, and am building on for my wife…

Never skated when growing up, wish I did :frowning: .

Got gout about four years ago, so too much walking was out and the gym was 45 mins walk each way.

Initially was looking at electric scooters and stumbled into a thing called Boosted board. Was only in America, so I looked at Evolved boards and got myself a Bamboo GT.

Tried riding a skateboard for the first time in my life on the Bamboo GT and was thinking “What have I done wasting money getting this???” but kept at it and skill level levelled up and up till I could go full speed and enjoy my coffee in travel mug at the same time

Now working on my first build :mechanical_arm:

I skated since I was 8.
In my teenage years it was everything.
All day everyday. It was how I dressed. Who I hung out with. The chicks I banged. The reason I got arrested.
It lasted through college being a huge deal.
Enter after college times and working full time and it started to taper off.
At around 25 I had a herniated disc on my lower back that really put me out several months and I never fully recovered from it. Certainly wasn’t trying to kick flip down stairs and shit like that.
The skatepark was still fun to cruise around in my late 20s but the frequency was going down.
Getting into my 30s. More work. Less trips to the skatepark. My metabolism took a dump and I went from 170 to 210 lbs in a year…
So long story short trips to the skate park were less and less of a thing.
And when I did go I was so out of shape and had lost so many tricks it ended up being a bummer.
So less trips to the park and so on…
Now I’m 42. 3 young kids. And I skate everyday.
In the past 3 years electric boards became a huge deal for me and I obsess about them.
But most importantly I skate everyday.
It is weird because I now just skate alone so you don’t get the skate park homeys comradery…
I kind of get that here. So kisses and hugs to all you guys.

I probably got too carried away building and still obsess about and spend way too much money… But I’m super stoked on it and again.
Weather permitting…
No injuries…
I skateboard every day.

Just like I did when I was a kid.

For me, I never skated as a kid but when a friend of mine got a OneWheel I started looking into the PEV community… Came across some resources on building esk8s and with my obsession with making shit, I just kinda started winging it and now here I am; still without a working board but learning every day

Replacement for wintersport. Independent from hills, snow, seasons, climate change, queues, noobs, kids going down the hill in a ski class, drunk Germans,.

Just need to watch out for cops now.
Do miss the powder sometimes.

Honestly, chasing an adrenaline rush that I get from speed. Been at it since a kid, going down big hills on a bike as fast as I can. Discovered the world of street racing (cars), thousands of dollars in tickets and few times in jail didn’t stop me, a near fatal accident did, I walked away from it fully intact, decided not to push my luck. Started finding other sources to get my fix that does not involve speeds in the triple digits. And here I am. This and downhill mountain biking is my 2 go tos now.

Used to skate as a kid and all through high school, mostly street and a bit in the skatepark. Never longboard, tho I wish I had now. Left the island for about ten years for uni and work after that. Always had a board but didn’t ride as much. Never like bikes, tried BMX for a bit but I’d rather kick push standing than seat on that uncomfortable thing for hours, so when I became interested in PEV, skateboards were the obvious choice.
I am so happy EUCs weren’t a thing yet, I could see myself wasting money on one and end up still building a board.

Never skated or snowboarded in my life, I’m antigas and needed something to commute on, saw this on a forum a few years ago and loved it, way too expensive though and didn’t think about it until last August, got some unexpected money and just went for it, I love it

I’ve been snowboarding since I was a teenager (note: I’m 37 years old now).
One day, I saw a video on Instagram of a skateboarder going on without pushing in the sandy beach. So I figured it would be a good workout for the non-snowy season in Japan.

I bought a Bamboo GT 2 in 1 from Evolve and this is where my ESK8 history began.
I searched the forums daily and made myself a new battery pack and replaced the Evolve junk battery pack.

Then continue on the path of a full DIY build. I’m now becoming a speed addict.

One thing I can tell you is that it doesn’t matter how old you are to start ESK8.

Weird journey for me. Skated when I was 10-11 yrs old on a really crap clone board because we were dirt poor. I kept pestering my dad to get me one because my cousins had theirs (better ones no doubt) - I mean, this was literally the late 80s and cloned skate tech looked like it was made of chipboard or something with some wheels thrown onto it.

I could balance but do only the simple tricks - ollies were impossible with crap boards - a complete lack of pop, and you hard to rely on the big bulge at the bottom of the tail to flip it up.
The bash-guards kept coming off where the screws fell out. horrific fraying happened nose and tail. One day it went through water, and that was the end of skateboarding.

Fast forward to last year - was planning a big family migration to another country, office, city and life. Looked at e-bikes at first because I didn’t want to rely on cars to commute and I didn’t want to arrive to work all sweaty. Figured the e-bike could get stolen if parked publicly and there’d be no space to store it at the new office. Took a look at e-boards instead, after finding out that e-scooters were banned in that city.

Some setbacks occurred and the migration never happened. Now I am here. Hooked.

I have never ridden a skateboard that didn’t have a motor. Been surfing for almost 40 years. Saw two guys on esk8 on the Venice (CA) Boardwalk one day and thought “that looks cool”. It is. It is a never-ending wave.
I purchased an Exway X1 and started out riding up and down the basketball courts across the street a few times. Within two months I had run out of range and purchased a Bamboo GTX. 15 mile rides are the standard on the weekend now while I work on my forever build. It is getting close to a year now since I started. What a putz.

Started skating on my knees a kid because no one could teach me how to skate. Taught myself how to ride and even some tricks. The. I fractured my leg dropping in on a ramp and said FUCK TRICKS! I wasnt going to be a pro skater so no need to risk all that injury. I still liked skating as transportation and to ride so when I needed transportation to work, I bought a longboard. Bombing hills to work was awesome but walking up them still sucked. I needed a way to get up those hills easier.
