Wheel comparison thread!

Ive loved my new 90mm Boa’s infairness ive been always on 50CP Poppca/enertion wheels. Tried 74A Abex 11 Wheels, with the 42cp… As reboundy as they are and grippy, im feeling much better grip and control on the boas

Have you put some miles on the new 90mm Boas yet?

How does it fare with the blue cags ?

Not too many yet, been switching between the 80mm and 90mm. Done maybe 15 Miles on the 80mm, and 30 on the 90mm. Not as soft as the blue cags for sure, but I can feel they will last a lot longer, They feel a little faster than the cags too, probable due to the small size increase obviously, but also the thane.

What does the European Folke’s use?
For the past 6 months or so I have been rocking blue cags dyed black. My only main gripe is the chunking, and that I have to go over the wheels with super glue every 3-4 weeks. But other then that they are a real beauty to ride.

its a choice I guess, repair / replace wheels often or buy a set that will last longer. I’ve found that the 90mm Boa’s show no signs they will chunk due to the way the outer lip is, more rounded than having a sharp lip, thats where i noticed the blue cags start to chunk, and diamond mould shape maybe makes a slight weak point for the thane to chunk along.

yeah I guess you are right! would have loved to be able to have torqueboard thane in Europe. 110/100/90 mm wheels. but not sure if it is worth the extra shipping and tax nonsens.
not really into harder wheels. had 2 sets of orange bags before the blue ones that I beat the crap out of but switching to the softer blue ones made such a massive difference. to me it feels like the wheels hugs the dirt and gravel and grips the road surrounding it instead of just lifting from the ground and sliding on top of it sort of like ball bearings, like harder wheels trends to do. (I don’t know just the feeling im getting with harder wheels.) so personally im after the softest wheels possible that still lasts a decent amount of time.

I have actually taken a fine toothed file to the edges to make them slightly rounder. I feel like their lathe work of rounding the edges after the wheels comes of the mold has a fairly rough/granular surface. since I did that about 4 months ago I have not had a single chunk from the edges fly off, just the regular cracks on the contact patch. maybe it is because I manly ride on roads and not sidewalks or bikelanes so the roads are fairly uniform and free of crap.

Hey, just found these wheels on aliexpress, 1st time i see them.

Anybody heard anything about those ?

Not sure how we could fit standard pulleys on those, might not be to hard to 3d print an adapter tho.

But do you think it’s very different?
Or just kinda meh?

Not at all, the quality is there, the thane is good. I had doubts when they changed suppliers, but thats pretty much done now after riding the 2 sets I ordered.

While the thane may be a little harder, the actual shape of the wheel makes up for it, those 80mm Sigma wheels are a great example, with the deep lip and wide patch, it gives a little squish as you ride and carve. They could have just printed 78a on the wheel and no one would have raised an eyebrow.

and like I said, I can tell these will probably last way longer than my blue cags, that are now in chippy cag heaven. If I can get the Boas in blue or purple, I’d be a happy fuzzy man

What are good wheels for very rough concrete road? Now i have 83mm 82A abec style wheels and it’s not very comfortable on those roads

How does the white colour look like after some miles? I assume they will start looking like piss yellow?

Put a few miles on each, and they look just fine, no piss to speak of. If anything you just get some dirt or road grey on the contact patch. Wheels are made to be ridden, if you are super anal, you can always give them a bath, or oxyclean scrub will bring them back to new. I’ve seen cheap low quality white wheels over the years, this is a different thane. :+1: My blue cags turned green in like a week, probably due to their softness.

I had the old 100mm Boas in Red, they were great for rough roads and shitty pavement. Other than that you have AT wheels, or the cloud wheels, but I wouldn’t touch those with a 105-120 foot pole at the moment, quality issues.

I’ll be interested in hearing how the mach 1’s compare to the boas if you get a chance~~ the mach 1 is pretty nice but the clearance gets a bit close sometimes

I will definitely compare them. The Venoms have the potential to be my new favorites. They’re so squishy :star_struck::star_struck:

riding these sweet wheels a lot on my push board… they’re smooth as anything. Have not tried them electrically. Can’t slide them though.

Finally got my 100mm Boas. Switched my brother’s board off the Popoca 78A 90mm wheels to these.

My thoughts:

  • Definitely look a lot bigger.
  • Weight difference – can’t tell once they’re on the board.
  • Softness – both to the hand, and on the board, feel like 78A.
  • As such, vibration dampening while riding felt basically the same.
  • Because they are bigger, they do go over debris easier, but because you are higher from the ground, I feel less in control of the board. Maybe they would be better on an even wider hanger. Because of this reason, I actually prefer the Popocas.
  • They look so nice when they’re clean. I recommend getting a dyed set from nexusboards.co.uk if you don’t like dirty white.

Conclusion: The clearance these wheels give is quite necessary for my brother’s board due to how low the motor mount hangs. But because he doesn’t ride as fast, I think I will get him soft TB wheels instead. I will be using these wheels on my Neo deck, if it ever arrives :eyes:

So, to update my tested wheel list from best to worst:

  • 97mm 77a Evolve wheels
(haven’t tried them in a while, maybe they shouldn’t be at the top)
  • 85mm 76a light blue Caguama wheels
  • 90mm 78a Popoca wheels
  • 100mm 83a Boa Constrictor wheels
  • 85mm 80a orange Caguama wheels
  • 80mm 80a orange Kegel wheels

Hey kids.
Has anyone tried the TB 100 mm wheels?
I love my 110s.
Pondering how the 100s are.
Supposedly same durometer and formula. But smaller contact patch.

@torqueboards
Are you going to do a 72a in 100mm?
