What helmet speakers are you using [SERIOUS]

Looking to see what sort of setups everybody is using for helmet mounted audio.

Also open to discussion of other non-helmet music solutions for esk8, though I hope to keep helmet mounted as the main focus.

I’ve personally been using an Anker SoundCore stuffed in my inner LazyRolling hoodie breast pocket. It’s pretty inconvenient to switch songs while wearing gloves, and I’m personally not a huge advocate of skating alone with an external speaker blaring. People who play music on their phones in public are one of the several scourges of the earth.

I don’t have airpods and have zero plans on getting any, and my PowerBeats Pros just don’t work with helmets.

Hoping to find some sort of mountable Bluetooth setup with some accessible buttons for skipping songs and pausing.

Any input on my specific search is much appreciated and I hope to see what everybody has that works well for their needs.

(Also, if it’s not obvious, for those of us who ride in the streets with cars, running anything loud enough to no longer be able to hear your surroundings is inadvisable. )

I have skull candy vert, raycon e55, airpods pro, air pods and beats solo 3, skull candy vert would probably be best as it clips on to your clothes https://www.skullcandy.com/shop/earbuds/bluetooth-earbuds/vert

Freedconn bluetooth.
The speakers are behind the cheek pads.

Sena30ks, they’re pricey but they’re worth every penny if you have friends that also have them and bonus points if you ride a motorcycle

Cardo has surpassed Sena at this price range.

Great sound. Connect every time and stay connected. Logical buttons.

I use a JBL Flip 4 strapped to the top of my back pack, right behind the neck, plus a Bluetooth remote so it’s easy to change volume and songs

Same, but with a flip 5. I also have some Amazon cheapo helmet headphones I got for like $30. These fit perfectly in my tsg pass.

But yeah the jbl flip strapped to the top handle of my book bag so the speaker is facing the back of my helmet.

Good input so far.

Probably a sin, but I’ve actually started to really not like riding with a backpack. When going 30mph+ at least, which is most of what I’m doing right now. Interferes with arm behind back. Going to start using tactical fanny pack for tools. Speaker in/strapped to backpack is obviously a great choice for those who don’t mind them tho.

As for earbuds, even though I’ve mentioned the PowerBeats pro - I can’t stand having earbuds in for very long in the first place. No idea why but most tip types irritate the shit out of my ears.

Never realized the earmuff looking helmet speakers went behind pads. Makes a lot more sense now :man_facepalming:

I just glued a pair of old ear buds in one side of my helmet.

No need to recharge and it’s cheap. Cable kinda sucks but much rather that, than recharging. That sucks even more IMO…

I use cardo packtalk and prefer it over sena. I’ve used cardo since the first Scala rider and really have grown to love the system.

That said this is a pretty good deal for the sena 20s evo

If you do enough coke and hookers, the music will just stay in your ears.

Do you use the buds or what ever they are called?

Yep that’s them

Already have raging tinnitus :metal:

Well not recommended if you wanna stay aware of your surroundings but I cannot recommend enough Audio Technica ATH-CKS5TW.

Versatile enough to play brilliantly any type of music and when you wanna go BOOM and blast that bass, they’ll outperform just any other BT wireless earphones. You can swap on the go from personal opera to personal soundblaster jam.

But they work too well : passive isolation + music = you’re cut from outside world. Ah, the battery life and build is solid, LEDs are super discrète contrary to a lot of intras. It holds good in the ear canal.

You don’t need to play them loud either to enjoy music, so maybe low level sound can help being more aware of surroundings while still hearing your tracks.

Yep, I’ve become a fan since I got them :fire::ear:

Not saying the the Freedconn is in the same league as Cardo or Sena but for 50€ it works surprisingly well and all reviews so far seem to agree.

Absolutely. For the board I think freedconn is more than good enough.

I use my cardo on the bikes as well. For me the noise canceling quality, mesh networking, voice control, ip rating and decent mobile app are irreplaceable.

If I was just using it on the board I’d probably pickup a freedconn for $40-$60

Yeah, in the end, I’m not after anything major for esk8 purposes just yet. Just good enough and convenience.

I have a pretty nice collection of IEM’s from too long ago, Beyerdynamic 600 ohm DT990’s, and a 71lb 2500W RMS subwoofer… Bases covered for times when I want quality audio :+1:

Buying the PowerBeats Pro kinda hurt me deep down tbh. Always promised myself I’d never buy anything by Apple or Dre. They ticked every single complicated box I had at the time tho :frowning:

If you’ve never heard music from 3+ driver IEM’s properly amped… You’re missing out. Haven’t really looked at the scene in four years but I’m pretty sure quality multi driver IEM’s are relatively cheap for what they offer at this point
