Weird theories and ideas thread! any ideas welcome

Heat sink fins on motor mounts. Seems like thermal compound between the motor and the mount is actually really effective at drawing heat out onto the mount, so why not add some surface area to dissipate it? I imagine it could do quite a bit of good to keep the stator cool since the mounts are exposed to airflow while moving.

I imagine that as long as you make sure those laces are tight it couldn’t possibly go wrong.

Bulky, but actually look like a blast to ride around on. Also pretty damn cheap.

I’ve been thinking about this one for a few weeks.

In describing the components of a trucks, you have a pivot cup and on the end of the hanger you have the pivot.
Its kinda awful terminology. It describes what happens there, yes. But then there’s little distinction between the action and the physical part.
There’s also the urethane component of the pivot cup, and then the metal pivot cup on the baseplate.

So, what if instead we stopped calling it a pivot cup on the baseplate, and started calling it a Trunnion.

Firstly because thats just a way cooler name.

But its also pretty close to a trunnion in both form and function.

That also might mean we can call the pivot on the end of the hanger a pintle. That’s a nice name too.

That is actually exactly why it is a great term for it. If someone can look at the part and guess what it is called based on what the thing does then that is a successful name in my book. Mainly because my brain has only 100 brain cells reserved for the names of stuff so anytime I can describe what something does rather than use some made up name is good.

It is also something that helps non-native english speakers out since they know what it is called without needing to remember more terms.

Also we can just call the metal part of the pivot cup as the pivot cup housing, or just don’t call the metal of the base plate anything other than the base plate. It’s not like you can just remove that part of metal and replace it easily anyway

I’m not saying it looks cool, but it is literally cooler when it’s on.

Also, why not moar?

Why not use that orange fan and make an esk8 with a sail? The fan would be a backup if it isn’t windy enough

Someone did bring a Nerf blaster on one of the group rides in DC a while back. Shame it was never used though.

would be a nightmare cleaning up darts… need some water dissolvable ones or something

I think about this sometimes. I settled on ice, pine cones, and compacted dirt as things that could be launched on mass and left without cleanup.

They have this new packaging foam that dissolves in water. I definitely think darts could be made from this material. Would have to think about the tip though.
