So if 95% only use our BMS for charging, why do we even keep it on the board? Would it not be more efficient space wise(at least a little) and definitely parts wise(if you use one charger for multiple boards) to have the bms be part of the charger itself?

Plenty of people do just that. The biggest problem is finding a decent balance port for a reasonable price. The balance ports i like cost more than a good BMS

I see I see. I just hadn’t heard of it yet, and was like “odd that we don’t stuff some more cells there.” Particularly for smaller boards where every mm counts.

Yep, definitely doable, but not terribly common. Its actually a substantial amount of work integrating a balance port into the equation. Finding balance port/plugs that are already wired definitely helps.

I come across plenty of types of plugs and sockets in my line of work we quite often use small compact sockets and plugs for control panels, never really occurred to me that they could be used this way until just now.

What charger/ bms do you use? I like the idea of having one charger/BMS for all boards instead of the numerous ones I have lying around.

I have a few. My new favourite one is the Radium one.
And just LLT bms.
I was using the ultrapower 1200ac plus balance charger, but i did a stupid to it one too many times and it is no longer reading voltages accurately.

I probably have like 10 dif chargers, and maybe 3 or 4 external bms that i use for dif things. 10s bms, 10s bms set up specifically for evolve batteries, 12s bms and 13s bms.
The good thing about the LLT is you can use the same bms from 10s-15s. Handy hint: make sure you label your bms well plugging a 10s bms into 12s battery is baaaaad

Haha I see how it can get confusing, my mate here in Christchurch has snout 25 boards with 15 different chargers it’s like an esk8 riders paradise going in to his work shop.
How easy is it to change the BMS’s from 20 to 25 with the LLT is it a software thing or just wiring of the BMS it’s self?
