Waterproofing at all costs: a discussion.

None cos o haven’t ridden it yet. Still finishing build. Small Drop of hot glue on the plug before plugging it in is apparently the trick.

Good luck finding one which will handle enough phase current and isn’t massive.

Closest I found is this

I wish I could find singular panel sockets and plugs that have 3 high-power pins and 6 data pins. I swear I’ve seen something that looks like a VGA plug like that.

What is that? It looks perfect

Only 20a phase current

I wonder if that’s 20A just to be safe or if it’ll start getting too hot over 25A. Would be neat to see the large pins tested to 40A or 60A

Well that pic is next to an mr60 and shows the size difference. They’re quite a bit smaller

They look to be about 1mm smaller, like the same size as the pins in an XT30

Says on the Ali page 20a, but 40a max. Prolly ok for small low power build.

Buy some and test them.
I have some but no time or desire to test them

I don’t think that would be too much of a problem, if anything you can just look at it each ride. The plastic in conjunction with its internal bullets should be plenty.

On my first build, it was bullets plugged right into an enclosure like this, and those did tend to want to back themselves out. With an MR60 I don’t think it would be bad

Hmmm I might pick some up for my shortboard build, could be interesting…

I could even use FOC openloop and monitor the temperature of the connector at different phase loads

They’re actual AMASS connectors too… I bet they can take more current than their rating

The back of the connector looks super weird to solder to though

Yeah, maybe meant to be installed and soldered on a pcb?

Yeah kind of looks like it, I wonder if it would even stick to a cable

I suppose you could make a motor connection pcb of sorts using these lol

I wonder if there is a beefier version

/offtopic I’ll make a thread for this

And only 2 outer connectors. Would need 3 of those with the middle one split. Lots of wire-making and waterproofing the split would be required.

There is, just not yet…

HA! I knew someone had to be already onto this! I was just thinking of sending amass an email to get some kind of ball rolling on this idea.

:joy: It’s not happening. Not enough volume

Never give up. We can do anything we set our minds to.
