Vesc 6 overcurrent fault

Running the most recent firmware (4.2 I think)

bruh that firmware is as sketchy as your soldering

speaking of which, take pix of your phase wiring, maybe there is room for improvement

I didn’t solder the phase wires they already had bullets and I just plugged them in

What firmware do you recommend

try 3.65

if you’re too shy to post pix of your wiring, at least post your individual motor detection values

i’ll also double down on my dummy approach of setting up, testing, and troubleshooting each esc+motor separately

I don’t mind posting wiring picks but you will have to give me a bit as I a not able to right now

I will also send detection pics do later

Is your “absolute maximum current” accidentally set at 20A instead of 200A?

Set it at 200A or the max it will let you, and don’t change it.

Overcurrent faults on low amps is usually a bad phase wire connection or broken motor winding. Discharge BMS with switch is something that bears the risk of a unintended disconnection in between the battery and VESC which is likely to kill the VESCs. The best way to check things is a direct (fused) connection in between battery and VESC. Then test each VESC with its motor. If you face the same issue, you can swap the VESCs and see if it’s the motor or wiring.

K will try checking each vesc separately

Also. @b264 I had it set to 20amps is that a problem?

You are joking right?

An absolute max of 20A is really low, the default is 130A or something like that

Could someone explain what settings I should be using

Also I se the absolute to 20 as @b264 told me to try with low current

Usually I have it set to like 50amps/45

Try settting max battery amp to 30/-10 and motor amps to 45/-40 and absolute max to 100A
Check if that still gives you errors

  1. As Brian said, set the ABSOLUTE current max to the default value. It should be 150-160A.
  2. Next time I see you offer your services to build a board for someone else, I am getting on a plane and I am coming to slap you silly…

Offered to build a board not set it up

Just listening to instructions

Will see later if that works

Just do the wizard, choose the 750g motor, drop in your battery info and gearing and don’t touch any other values.

But then I puts regen way to high

Nope, Batt regen should not be limited if your battery is ESK8 suitable. This value defines brake strength at speed. You need good brakes!

I though the and have heard from everyone that it is not safe for your battery to set regen more then like 15amps per side as it is like charging you battery
