uSplit - UART Splitter for VESC-based ESCs

Actually with the uSplit I have noticed that sometimes it turns on the “Stat” light and then turns off and transmits no data to the UART devices. I know that sometimes this happens with Arduino devices and that you have to delay the startup with a couple of capacitors. Maybe something like that is needed.

I just sent you a PM in the beta group

Since the question was asked on the electric-skateboard.builders thread of when I will start selling these, I thought I would post my response here as well for anyone interested

Testing is still being performed, but I will be ordering the first batch of 50 3-way uSplits sometime next week. The lead time from my supplier is 15-20 days, so I would estimate at least 3 weeks from then till I receive them. In the mean time I will work to get all the documentation ready and my site updated with the shop listing.

Once I receive and test them. I will make the listing on my site active and send a message to all the people who filled out the survey to let them know it’s available.

Currently, the survey indicates 41 units will be purchased right away, leaving 9 remaining in the first batch. If anyone would like to ensure they get a uSplit in the first batch and has not filled out the survey, I suggest they do so within the week.

Nope, your resposnse claimed the 49th unit!

I’m going to close the survey now so there aren’t more than 50 claimed for the first batch. There will probably still be a few uSplits left over for people who did not fill out the survey, since not everyone who fills out a survey always follows through :stuck_out_tongue:

Status Update:

The first batch of 50 uSplits have been ordered. The assembly company has produced the boards and have ordered the parts. Once the parts arrive, they will assemble one sample part and send it to me. If I approve, then they will assemble the remaining parts and ship those out. It is hard to say how much longer the assembly will take, but it was quoted with 3 weeks lead time and I ordered last week. I would tack on another week and a half for shipping.

There are still a couple potential FW bugs that the beta testers and I are looking into, but the HW has not been an issue. That’s why I was comfortable ordering the 50 assembled units. The FW will continue to be worked on while the boards are getting assembled. That way the FW can be completely ready by the time the boards arrive

Thanks for the update !
Will the user be able to update the uSplit by his own ?
If yes, how ?

Yes they will  The uSplit has a USB port on it that is used for updates. Instructions for updating the uSplit FW can be found on the uSplit documentation page of my site.

Hey, what would be the cost for this thing to Europe?

How much would 1 cost?

One uSplit will be $30 + shipping

@Jamie42, I am currently using standard USPS to ship units, so international shipping ranges from $10.50 to $14.50 depending on the destination.

I’m interested, hope there will be some available soon! (Unfortunately misses the first batch)

The first sample board shipped out today and should arrive monday  If everything checks out (from the sample pictures it looks like it will), then they will build the rest of the 50 boards and ship them out. I’m estimating it will be 2 weeks from Monday until I get the full order.

Any chance of one or two? Would like to add a uart screen but all ports full!

Hi Ricco,

Great project! I’ll take one too if you have one. Trying to connect my metr and the Maytech v2 remote UART data display to my efoil build. For now I’ll try connecting a 2nd VESC (with a broken DRV) via CAN to give me an additional UART, creative solution suggested by Giga on our efoil builders forum.

Thanks,
Merten
