Check the used market there’s lots of used cart tires out there. I have a set I’m willing to give to anyone who buys a set of these adapters; for just the cost of shipping.
But I’m not sure which kinds of hubs they fit on but probably one that will fit one of the mounting points on this piece of Swiss cheese

These will definitely work, but could be bearing killers 
increasing backspacing will help your bearings, but will decrease clearance for drive components. It’ll depend on your specific setup
If you want to try it without spending that much, go to a karting place and ask them if you can dig around in their trash tire pile. Rental compound tires you’ll find a bunch, with a bit of luck you might also find softer tires than that. Use your finger nail to judge the rubber compound.
40$ a piece is realistic for rims, I paid about that for mine. For brand new tires you should be looking at fronts, I’d honestly be surprised if you find fronts more than 55$ a piece, in Europe I can get the best race compounds for that kind of money.
I finished our season finals race at 3rd place on trash pile tires that the karting place said I can take for free.
So it’s looking like we have room for only one set of trampa holes. I say we make them threaded holes as removing threads is much easier than adding them.

Is anyone running kart tires on 10mm axles that we know of? Curious if anyone knows if 10mm will handle kart stuff from experience.
Thanks for the advice. I was looking at 10x4.5-5 fronts. This was the first place I looked, but those prices seem similar to what I’m seeing elsewhere. Vegas seem to be around $60 a tires and Hoosiers around $80 a tire. There are some cheaper options on there too, but if I’m going to bother with the whole thing, I figured I’d want to try the best tires available, which seem to be Vega, Hoosier, or maybe Maxxis. I have trouble even figuring out what common rental tires would be new. There seem to be fewer options than I was expecting, but asking locally seems like a good idea.
I’ve been recommended Lecont by some people who are into kart racing. LPM and SVC slicks should both be top of the line performance. I can get them around 50€ per piece including sales tax in EU
The Lecont tires seem to be around $60 USD a tire here as well.

I don’t know much about them, but they look fairly legit and have good prices if you buy 8 to 10 tires. $256 for 8 4SLs, which is their softest compound and apparently “super light”, or $250 for 10 of the 5s, which is still soft, but probably has a lot more life. For whatever reason, the 5Ls are much more expensive, though. If I go through with buying everything, I might buy an order of the 4SLs and either try to find someone to split it with or keep the extra set for spares.

It’s definitely cool if that kind of cheaper wheel works in addition to full race kart rim/wheel setups. When I was looking I was thinking they were might create problems with the 2 inch backspacing requirement.
