Upgrade Vestarboard V2 ESC with Flipsky 4.20 plus

Hi Guys, I posted in the dead forum Electric Skateboard Builders Forum and thanks to BillGordon that told me about this new forum…anyway, thanks for letting me in and I hope to solve my dilemma…I fried my V2 Esc and I am trying to replace it with the Flipsky 4.20 plus but without good result so far. After the setup with Vesc Tool the board is very slow with an awful start, basically no power, no torque …very slow start and I can’t understand why… The motor are the cheap chinese 5055 sensorless but It should work better with a Vesc rather than the original esc.
Thanks for any help
Cheers Marco

What settings did you use on the esc?

Hi Marco-

Glad to see you made it over. If possible, take screenshots of your vesc settings. I ran those dual 5055 270kv from a pair of 4.12 singles before, and it worked quite well.

did you run the motor detection? those motor values seem a bit low…

Hi man…
Yes, I did…the motor detection gave me max amps of 19.50…very low…that it is why I put 25amps…does not make any sense…It has a very slow start in a Foc setup with wizard detection, then I run the motor dect in Bldc sensorless and on the ground has hiccup and need to be pushed to start to run.

hmmm… I’m not really an expert at this, but I run similar motors at about 42 amps which was what was detected, so it might be worth double checking the connections, also were there any faults in the logging?

Yeah, I would suggest trying

Motor Max 40
Motor Min - 40
Batt Max 30
Batt min - 12

This is normal behaviour with unsensored setup.

ok guys…I put 42amps in Foc sensor less and It works much better but not as before…and most important thing the motors are really hot compared to before…

interesting.
does anyone know if motor detection needs to be done without the belt attached or does it not matter? I always take the wheels off…

omg…I always seen to do it with wheels and belts on…

I do motor detection with wheels on it’s fine.

I always do detection with the belts off. Wheels dont matter but I think belts can. Also you might my trying to push more amps through the motors than what they can handle.

What is the version of Vesc tool and firmware?

I have encountered noisy motor sounds and no smooth rotation using the latest version of the Vesc tool in a FSESC6.6 Dual and TBDD setup.

4.01 firmware and 2.01 Vesc Tool…

I manage to ride to work for about 15km…and It’s really disappointing. Max speed 35kmh instead of 40/41kmh before…and the battery was fact already, I used to ride 25km with the shitty chinese Esc.
What’s the point to use Vesc…

I solved this by downgrading to Vesc tool Ver.1.28, firmware Ver.3.65.

How can I downgrade?

Moreover…how can I get at least the same performance as the shitty original Esc… :expressionless:

Just switch to the firmware screen of Vesc tool Ver.1.28 and write the default firmware.

Give it a try.
