Trampa wand pairing to Stormcore BT and not Trampa dongle

Qualifying this as a guess, but if both are active and broadcasting, and it consistently grabs the internal NRF, there’s either some priority being given in the firmware to the internal unit (could be verified by digging into the BLDC firmware code a bit further) or it’s based on signal strength and is grabbing the stronger radio first.

I haven’t done any AB testing with the Stormcore integrated NRF vs the Trampa NRF dongle, but so long as your NRF dongle is pretty recent, it should at least be the same NRF52840 chipset. Antenna performance does vary between the different module manufacturers.

Makes sense regarding why it might be grabbing one over the other.

I belive my dongle is one of the earlier nfr51 dongles. Do you know of an easy way to test the strength of the receivers? Like is there a way to view the rssi?

All of our testing was done within Nordic NRF5 debug/dev environments, I’m not sure they make RSSI available on the Wand display itself.

I would actually recommend you use the internal NRF52 module on the Stormcore over an NRF51.

The NRF51 also had an older firmware that had issues maintaining NRF connection + BLE simultaneously, so you’d want to make sure to update the firmware on it should you choose to use it.

I updated the module to the latest 1.2, so I’m good on that front.

So I have it top mounted on my MTB in a 3d printed nylon case, so there shouldn’t be too much in the way.

Just cerious, is this the stock firmware that comes on the storm core? Just want to make sure it is 100% good to go before I run my wand off of it.

It’s identical to the production NRF52 firmware LaCroix uses, bit for bit. But it’s not technically from them directly so consider it unofficial.

I have been using the stormcore ble with my wand for almost a year now.

The stormcore is housed in the Apex customs CF topped enclosure. If you get away from the board the connection instantly drops. But while riding, I’ve never really had a problem. Sometimes there’s is some weird behaviour on boot, but I also have that on my other builds with a optimal placed official ble module.

Just my 2 cents

Thanks for sharing, good to know!
Is the weird behavior you are talking about how when you start it up, the remote is in cruise control and the motors are slightly engaged?

No, I don’t use Cruise control button to power on the remote.

@Trampa who wrote the software for this? It’s really lacking. More features were promised but I’ve already been waiting over a year…

Hi✌️ did you experience some issues with the connection?
I also connect the wand to the Stormcore 100d, but when I give a command (throttle, brake or smart reverse)… the 2 dots (connectivity) stop flashing and the speed stays at 0 while driving. Also when I drive the same speed a several minutes the wand turns off, because there is no connection he thinks.

hey there.
I know this is an old thread. but I have same issue and found no solution for it.

I use a Stormcore 60D+ and a Trampa wand.
Because I had connection issues I bought the Trampa NRF module (new one).

But i cannot get it working.
It always connects to the internal module as described by @Posterduck

does anyone have a solution for this?

thx

You have to disable the internal BT.
Soon after I got it working, i was on it for a ride when the wand malfunctioned and gave full throttle when the potentiometer was centered.
Not a fan of the wand. It is a piece of shit.
