I don’t really see people saying anything about Vedder at all in this thread. It’s pretty clear what the complaints are, and they have to do with a company person treating the community it claims to serve, in a way that disappoints said community.
The whole reason why FOC is so popular is because of the simplicity in its implementation. But most big companies just run an off-the-shelf solution like TI’s Instaspin as I indicated.
Motor control is the easy part.
CIP is the hard part.
If a company needs a motor controller, they pay an engineer to spin something up over the course of 8 weeks. Most of that time is spent implementing the requested user interface.
I assume this is what boosted boards did when they started up.
Is that why your controller is so popular that you have been claiming beats all other controllers out there?
Have you tried implementing USB HID comms?
But FOC is popular because it makes the control system linear time-invariant, and the transforms and PI controllers are quick to implement.
There are dozens of application notes that detail how to implement them.
There’s dozens of different application notes from companies like Microchip and Texas Instruments that demonstrate how to implement sensorless position observers.
Whoever developed FOC is a genius.
As has been mentioned several times on this forum, Vedder is not the kind of guy who wants to fight people on the forums or in legal settings. However VESC is his baby and he doesn’t want that name to be associated with other derived products because they might not be built to the same standard (hardware or software). And since he would rather be coding than dealing with this TM stuff, Frank helps him enforce that.
But Vedder is ok with Frank coming to fight with us and strike channels?.. Im have to
be missing something…
EDIT: Im not on any side here, but having someone else fight for you is still fighting.
Its not like Frank said hey Lee, you mind if we talk about this video. An would you mind
maybe if I can preview any video that is VESC based? I would like to help you get things
correct. So that your videos are as professional as they look. With my overview and your
amazing edits we can help teach these people about the power of VESC!
He wants to keep working on his projects and research rather than engaging in fights which are a waste of his time and mental resource. What’s confusing about that?
Not really confusing, its a choice like any other.
Its just why let someone else speak so poorly on your behalf that
other start to look else where for a ESC.
Im mean, if he just wants to code on his own for himself. Thats chill.
EDIT: I may sound like an a** but really I hope he does what he likes, this for everyone tbh.

Like I and several others have said before, VESC is his baby and he doesn’t want that name to be used by other hardware and software that he didn’t create. Part of the deal (with Trampa) is that Trampa (aka Frank) takes care of misuse of that VESC name so that he can continue doing his stuff in peace. It’s pretty easy to understand.
People are free to take his code and design and create their own versions as long as they don’t use the name VESC, which he created and wants to be used only for the products he helped make.
Ok.
“People are free to take his code and design and create their own versions as long as they don’t use the name VESC, which he created and wants to be used only for the products he helped make.”
Possible names of a clone or this to much:
VVESC vroom vroom esc
V3SC vroom 3 esc
EDIT, really I dont plan to clone anything.
Just the whole topic I hate in general.
Using the word vesc in a youtube video isn’t covered by TM. Reporting the video was abusing the youtube feature. Not to mention it’s was obviously only done for malicious reasons , because there are tons of videos that use the word vesc that Frank has never bothered to report.
It was a dick move bottom line.
Aren’t channel strikes forever. Trying to appeal to them doesn’t even work unless your a big enough channel.

Ohh absolutely not. And also like Andrew said, two mistakes don’t make a right. But my point has been regarding using the VESC name by projects that is not created by Vedder. Regarding why people don’t want Vedder to be able to use VESC for his own work only. Doesn’t he deserve that much right after making his work free for all to use and create their own stuff?
how they are willing to treat Vedder.
people can only be so thankful for so long when the only one speaking for you is a walking talking cock.
The back story is really interesting to watch too!
Aren’t channel strikes forever.
I believe they time out after a year. But if youtube is your full time job, it can still be incredibly stressful.
Depends: If you present infringing content and actively and intentionally confuse brand and source origin, while running a linked online shop, you are violating big time.
-Lee runs a linked online shop
-Lee considers stocking the item he presented as VESC (obviously his builds need controllers).
-Lee openly refused to stick to given TM policies.
-Lee knew about the issue and took things further with full intention.
Quote Lee: “Absolutely, we will probably stock it in our shop if the testing goes well.”
So basically he forces us to take action.
guess its time to start striking every single video with intentional mentions of velcro
