It is! The head on the bolts I used isn’t that much larger than the shaft so a really big bump might pull it through, but the plastic is quite thick. I should get washers for that in case.
Not too long ago I broke 1k miles on this board and figured I’d share some thoughts.
1- Tires last longer than I expected them to. Obviously the back ones wear out faster but I was happy to see about 800 miles on them before I replaced them with more durable ones. Exited to see how long these Ali ones last me everyone raves about. Still on the same OG front Primo Alphas with what looks to be another 1000 miles of tread on them.
2- I don’t actually need or use 40 miles of range, but I kind of do. It’s nice to do a full ride one day, not charge, and finish the pack off the next day with another full ride. Or I can torture myself with 40 in one day. I’ve come to the realization that riding more than 20 miles in one trip means you’ve pretty much explored all of the park routes without riding the same place again.
3- Offroading is so useful. Not only does it double or tripple the routs available to me, but I can avoid some sketchy roads in parts and take a trail. Or I can just have some fun slipping some back tires. Pneumatics have me converted.
4- Slime those tire tubes
5- Still hard for me to compare channels to tkp and rkp but I love 'em. Just want some more duro options for the bushings even though it’s pretty dialed in already. The massive flex of the deck and dive of the trucks makes it a great carver. For the same reasons, it’s not a great speeder. Fast can be scary.
6- Fuck quiet boards, the chainsaw is where it’s at.
7- I would not trade these chains for anything. Love 'em. That said, I would not recommend open chain drives like these for the simple fact that shit gets stuck in 'em if you’re not careful, especially offroad.
So I don’t know if they’ve always been like this, or if my motor sprockets have worn down. Thee prongs are thin and sharp. The wheel sprocket has a much more round tooth profile but there’s obviously different profiles for teeth counts.
@Andy87 I think you use 9 tooth 06b sprockets, does this look acceptable?
Steel shouldn’t wear down unless its getting some serious abuse…do you use chain lube on it or clean the grit off on occasion?
That’s my thought but looking at these sprockets online and they all have more material. Could just be how these ones are.
Yah I lube them occasionally.
Hmm…I guess keep an eye on them but you may wanna buy some spares? If you’ve been getting them from an Ali source or something they may just be too soft for our use
I had that happen to two of my sprockets as well after one summer hard riding.
I need to admit that the chains had been pretty lose for half of the time as I didn’t have had the right length for the mounts, what probably didn’t made the wear out better.
Always make sure the chains and sprockets are aligned and have the right tension.
If they get more loud than usual use some lube.
Or just ride more relaxed
The roller chains were all banged up from curb transitions and such that I decided to replace them. The real solution is to get slightly smaller wheel sprockets let’s but let’s not get carried away here.
These ones are grey vs chrome and say nitro on them. My board is powered by nitro
Honestly I trust this board a lot more now. Now there’s just the Unity to worry about…
I have to trust my build as you with your board…
I grabbed this video yesterday evening, quite a boring route compared to what else there is but I’m staying away from people. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll ride around the municipal airport which is bumping with nice roads free of cars and cool things to see and a direct route there. This represents my regular riding pretty well. 20-25 mph is where I’m happy to stay at most of the time. Swapping out the chains has reduced the free roll a significant amount and marginally increased efficiency. Turn the volume up and you can hear the magical sound this makes up close. It is slightly quieter since this chain is coated in lube from the factory and I lubed the sprockets as well.
Replaced the front tires earlier than anticipated. The front left kept going flat, either the tube finally gave up or it needed more slime. Since I had the tires on hand I figured why not. Added more slime and still have the tire liners in all four.
Been in need of a front mounted light since the cheap helmet one doesn’t quite cut it. Ideally I’d want two for symmetry, but one will do for now.
Gonna try this one out later tonight after watching some Korra with the Bois.
Well we watched TV early into the morning so I only went out for a mile around the neighborhood at 2am. This has 3 modes, 1000 lumen, 650, and something else I don’t care about (350?). Both full and medium work well even though it’s 5 inches off the ground. It says it can do an hour and a half at full power which should be fine since medium is what I imagine will be used most of the time.
I considered wiring up a light directly to the battery but did try that before and always disliked the Chinesium brackets. This offered no more wires to route and a small package at the cost of only having an average rides worth of time at full power.
I can live with that. Barring another season binge watch tonight I’ll actually use it.
I have a light on top of my mtb deck but the angle really cuts down visibility. I’m gonna move to something like these on my next build. I think I prefer rechargeable. Easier mount and unmount, easy to charge, doesn’t use your range up, and they’re bright enough to be seen.
Sweet. Ive never seen one with the freebord bindings which is something I was considering. How do you like it?
I feel like theyd be easier to jump out of but idk if thats necessarily a good thing
Yah I really like them. Real jumping; especially with a 35 pound battery in these things is neigh impossible. Little hops work out well for me at least. Very easy to slip out if in a crash or such emergency but it took a little time to get used to them. At first they were kind of uncomfortable but it got better with time. They keep me stuck to the board on rough terrain and BMX parks and assist with leverage in a turn
Cool. I think there are pads built for them.
and I dont really need real jumps just something to stick to the board like you say. Interesting…
