The One… that needs to be longer. Cool board but too short and the drop down feature should let you go lower. I could see 2.0 being great if they make some changes though.
more pics coming soon
Can’t wait to compare them!
Sorry you feel that way. Nothing on this board is “run of the mill” but thanks for the comment.
good eye!
Thank you. this forum is very confusing to use. Although I have been a forum member fro 3+ years I have not used it much. I am trying to learn more on Artem’s recommendation. I appreciate everyone being patient with me as I figure out all the nuances of posting on esk8.news.
I’m a big fan of SKP by nature, but I think lots of this is fairly run of the mill.
18S4p P45B is nice but nothing special. The wheels are also nice but nothing unusual, Linnpower for example has several combinations of offset hubs with small square profile tires even tubeless options. Even Meepo sells 3 links and offset hubs these days. This just isn’t looking special or competitive. SKP Solo is solid but not as powerful as many options around.
We definitely need more pictures, videos and rider feedback.
This prebuilt from Linnpower is 78% cheaper (edit: this is not true. I meant Ionic is 78% more expensive), has a larger battery, more power, also uses reachers, similar wheels, 8 amp charging, nice split angle deck. Just less nice trucks potentially but for the price difference you can buy many sets of dualities OX Electric Skateboard
Everyone else included please go look at the cool stuff here. It would take too long to write out a comparison. Awesome 12kw esk8 with unique trucks, adjustable height brackets, 30 amp charging. THE ONE High-Speed Electric Race Board | 70-85km/h
Yeah, I’m kind of ruined after my first Evolve – it was fun, but it also made me sure I don’t really want to go back to the full-prebuilt route. Locked-down ESCs, proprietary connectors and oddball parts are the exact stuff I was trying to get away from. Half the fun for me now is being able to swap motors, change wheels, tune everything and fix it myself.
All these new hyper boards look insane on paper, but it feels like I’d be giving up one of my favorite parts of the hobby to ride something that closed. Do you know how the Linnpower setups are on that front? Are their ESCs/connectors actually mod-friendly, or are you mostly locked into their ecosystem once you buy in?
I’d be very interested in seeing pictures of the internals as a whole, given that it isn’t the same team behind things like pack construction I’d also be keen on seeing what the battery is looking like
Here is a 14s5p PCB pack of 50s cells built in the new San Diego facility. During development of the Ionic we tried multiple cells. The standard Ionic pack will be P45B going forward. Of course special orders can substitute any cell you would like. I am partial to Molicel cells after building packs for the past 4 years. I have found them to be very reliable.
That said, there has been so much advancement in battery tech over the last 9 months. Cell manufactures are topping each other with every release. We are watching the industry closely, and will likely change up cells as cost and performance balance out.
Hang in there Ray @Mobiusray .
One thing I would love to see is Duality trucks offered as an option as well.
Nice, always been a fan of pcb packs, you got any pictures of the welds on the cells? When it comes to how the nickel on the P groups is attached to the pcb has it just been welded on mboards style? Or did you also solder around the edges more akin to how DBS/hoyt used to do it
Glad to hear you are a fan of SKP. I’m sorry you think a Chinese production board is comparable to anything we make. I don’t understand why you would post all of this in my thread, but I will do my best to respond.
Check your math. “78% cheaper” than the Ionic at $2999 would be $659.78, which is a quite a bit shy of the $1699 OX you posted links for.
If you read our product page you will see we offer the optional 18s4p in the Ionic at no additional charge, since the 18s pack only has 2 more cells in it, 72 vs 70. We suggest 5p for range, and 4p for performance. All our boards feature our own Vesc programable esc, not a proprietary Chinese ESC. We build them in USA, not a China sweat shop. Reacher motors are great, and we are constantly working with Reacher to produce better options for esk8. I have not seen the 7087 or 6487 Motors listed on the One page from Reacher. I am not even sure they are making these motors, but if they are, and they perform better than the 6485, rest assured we will be offering them in the near future. Mad has one of the best 3-link trucks designs available, and they performed the best on our board in testing. I see no mention of Duality trucks or Tito on the Linn One page. They call it “Race Axis” with a trade mark. We have all seen the knockoff game out of China. I can’t say weather the truck design was stolen or licensed, but no credit was given to Tito. I have some reservations about the One deck design with the adjustable hight system being mounted to the board with 4 bolts agains the shear angle, so every bump is working to cut the mounting bolts in half. As much as I like the idea of an easy hight adjustment, the One deck design could lead to a serious crash if those bolts failed.
I certainly don’t mean to trash Linn here, I am just responding to your rather snarky post. I think Linn makes some great products. We use the Linn slick on the Ionic. I would welcome a side by side comparison if anyone has a One they want to bring by my shop.
The Bottom line is nobody can compete with China on price, so if that is all that matters, then go for it. No judgement, just get out and ride what you got!
SKP builds a top quality product in the USA that is of our own design. We love it, and hope everyone else feels the same.
I would have liked to see that too. I was in contact with Tito through testing and parts sourcing, I found the cost vs performance was not a good trade off for the production line. I can certainly add Duality as an upgrade option, Ultimatly we will build it however you want it.
Yes that’s my bad. Ionic is 78% more expensive.
I know it’s 18S4P, that is what I said and that is indeed smaller than the linked 16S6P. I didn’t mean to tell people to buy it instead, just that there are very competitive options which would explain people not being thrilled right off the bat.
I appreciate this and it’s great for DIY, but on the other hand kilowatts are kilowatts and the hobbywing / generic Chinese ones are often bulletproof compared to VESCs.
I don’t know who makes those motors, but they look very similar to reachers and some are larger. A single millimetre or two is insignificant, like how the SKP website says 64xx and the reachertech website says 63xx. There are some pretty good points about them one way or another.
The esk8 assembly or also the SKP Solo?
I meant someone could swap the trucks to their choosing after purchase for the Linnpower Ox or another esk8 like from Acedeck. But the Linnpower One trucks do look extremely promising.
I do admit this does seem a bit harsh, but looking at the Ionic and the Linnpower One, it seems the Linnpower has more innovation less imitation. Different motor sizes, drastically different deck/bracket/truck design, but maybe similar to Mach One in a few ways?
Price does matter to a lot of us, when you get more numbers for closer to half the price than the full price of another it makes a big difference in how well received a product is.
Just wanted to say I think you handled this response really well.
@Mobiusray any chance we’ll hear more about those sick gear drives that have been hiding on your site soon?
I just got here, but where are you guys getting these wack numbers from? The cheap version of Linnpower The One is nowhere near the power this thing will have, and the comparable version costs exactly the same at $2,999.00 vs $2,999.00. The price difference between the two versions is massive on those, but comparing this to something with half the power is just dishonest, which seems to be what people in this thread are doing.
From a brief look, I’d take this 100% of the time over the comparable version of The One. The cheap version of the one does seem like a better deal than the more powerful version, but that is not in the same class.
Edit: And to be clear, I could see preferring either one at equal price, but I’d rather have Solo ESCs and Reacher motors rather than more locked-down prebuilt ESCs and motors I don’t know much about. How much you value that is highly subjective, though.
I think it’s these.
Hell yesss… I hadn’t seen this review yet. These trucks would be perfect for that Evo setup I just can’t seem to sell, gonna have to check them out asap.
