This is how you know you did it right! All the meticulous, scrambled, over thinking during assembly and planning all pays off in the end.

Congratulations on your cancerversary, whenever you choose to celebrate it. I think you should celebrate each and every one of those milestones, good and bad. Glad to have you here dude, literally!

There are no words to describe just how badass it is for you to beat this shit and keep doing what you love.

Bring on the updates of all types! Saying this is inspiring is an understatement. Keep on killin it bro!

Haha, alrighty then. Can do!

There has always been something to adjust, replace or tinker with on previous boards. I had a lot more down time in 2020/2021 while recovering from treatments/surgeries, so this project became something to take my mind off things. It was fun to plan out the little details, or imagine how to do things differently. Definitely learned a ton through this build.

And thanks for the kind words! Celebrating is hard, but is something I need to learn to embrace. I’m very grateful to have a second chance at life, and would like to think that I’m doing things A LOT differently because of what I experienced.

Thanks man.

Thanks dude. Get ready. They are coming soon

Yeah boyee.

Thanks man. It was real fun getting to ride with you this summer. Hoping for more opportunities soon.

Alrighty, time to get this thread up to speed. Got some goodies in the mail!

Thanks @dskate for the 3d printed angled risers!

Got some bushings from @RipTideSports because I had to see what all this hype was about:

… and they promptly went for a bath, because dye all the things!
AMIRIGHT? @Venom121212

Gotta love some tasty bits from @Tony_Stark at Radium. This includes some Riptide adapter plates, antisink plates and some mega large axle locknuts.

One of these things is not like the other…

The bushings turned out great. Now I just need to do my best not get them mixed up

And WOW! So impressed with the workmanship on these new XL hubs from @MBS:

Really excited to try out these 175mm rubbers from @Skyart. I’ve heard really good things about how well they are balanced right out of the box. They should have comparable wear life to the Kenda 909s I’ve been running for 2 years, and I should get a little torque boost from downsizing the tires from 200mm.

You guys just wait for some of the new pictures.

This Flux is looking soooo killer!!!

Pretty sure you’ll love the SKP tires. After having bad luck with a set of Kenda K909s I switched to 7” tires and tried some from Evolve. They were actually really good, but I couldn’t resist trying the SKPs. They are even better. Easy to balance, smooth rolling, and grippy. Looking forward to seeing yours stretched on those new hubs.

Worst case scenario you could cut a little chunk out of the top or bottom face!

Time for an update!

Got the Riptide bushings installed and took this thing for a spin. Wow, the hype is real. Cannot believe how much these bushings transform the feel of the Matrix II trucks. The front truck is a lot more loose than before, but the board still feels just as stable at top speed. What I really like is how progressive the bushing tension gets the further you get into the lean. Makes sense considering the shape of the bushings. It’s a very light and loose tension towards the center, and then gets progressively more firm towards the outside of the lean.

I highly recommend these bushings to anyone with Matrix II trucks! Probably my favorite upgrade so far. Here are some pics of the bushings installed:

I also swapped out the MBS kingpin bushings. Old versus new:

Next up… I swapped out the truck mounting hardware. This included new M5 bolts, M5 flanged lock nuts, 3d printed angled risers and some Radium antisink plates.

+5’ in the front:

-5’ in the rear:

And swapped in some M6 flanged nuts on the kingpin bolt:

Okay, here is my logic on the angled risers. Seems like most channel truck users are swapping in a -10’ riser in the rear only. This creates a 10’ split angle (30’ front and 20’ rear) but has some downsides, like extra tension on the rear mounting hardware and a turn radius reduction. I decided to go with a 10’ split, but opted instead to do a 35’ front and 25’ rear. This puts almost no tension on the truck mounting hardware and should have a similar turning radius as before (30’/30’). I haven’t been able to take it for a test ride since installing the angled risers, so time will tell if my theory is correct.

After that I started playing around with the new MBS Pro II XL hubs. The workmanship on these hubs is very nice. It was a bonus that they have the same bolt pattern as the OG Rockstar II hubs that I’ve been using for the last 2 years. I really like the faceted inside diameter of the hubs. Made it really convenient for placing balancing weights. The hub split line is offset towards the outside edge, which means that your balance weights won’t get displaced when you need to swap a tire.

Unfortunately the Moon drive position cannot be adjusted on the Matrix II trucks, simply because of the way they bolt into the hanger. This created a minor problem for the Pro II XL hub swap. Not only are the XLs wider, but the offset from the inside edge is different. I was really hoping that the inside edge of the Pro II XL hubs would be the same as the Rockstar IIs. Instead, the XL hubs sit further away from the Moon adapter plate.

This meant that I needed to buy longer M4 bolts and use additional spacers to get the hubs to bolt up to the adapter plate. Now I have spacers between the wheel pinion → adapter plate AND the adapter plate → hub. If I ever need to upgrade the Moon drives, I think I’m going to want some press fit adapters. Getting real tired of playing around with tiny spacers.

Anyway, here is a pic of getting the rear hub mounted up to the GDs:

Then installed the new rubber from SKP.

Back on all four!

Here is a picture showing where I had to install the hub spacers:

And can’t end the post without a quick living room glamor shot:

This is the way!

Black and silver/chrome for me is the best

I went all black with oil slick accents last and am wondering what the next build would look sexiest as oil slick is deffo over the hill.

I think a lovely wood graim and black build, a marble and gold build, or a rose gold and black build would be super clean.

I think gold or rose gold would be fantastic. I’m commited to black and chrome/polished silver for my next build. SRB 3 links make it a natural colorway

Black/Gold and Black/Raw Metal color combinations are awesome.

Are you doing an SRB 3-link build? I’m contemplating one myself…

Yep, I was suckered in by the reports of magical sparkle pony stability combined with no compromise turning. We’ll see if that turns out to be true.

I wasn’t a believer until I hopped on @PedroMcJimenez setup on the way home from Carve and was hitting good speed with good turning right off the bat. Either he tunes his setup almost EXACTLY like my matrix 2s or they’re just a good setup. We shall see!
