The helmet thread

I am sad that I missed your message, I would be down for that, I mena still am. But I’m guessing they are out of stock by now?

I have also been using my older dualsport Airoh helmet. It is great, but I have been thinking about upgrading to newer tech that also helps prevent concussions.

This is a topic that I have been following for over a year now, and these are the options I am considering as an upgrade (in order of perceived safety):
6D ATR-2
6D ATS-1R
Bell Moto-9 Flex
Shoei VFX-EVO
AVIATOR 2.3 AMS
Fox Rampage Pro
Kali Shiva 2
Leatt DBX 4

Does anyone own any of these?

My wish would be for some manufacturer to make a helmet that is essentially a TSG Pass with 6D technology. I would prefer to have a visor, but all the street motorcycle helmets are made for entirely different speeds and impacts than we have in esk8.

BTW, for those who don’t already have a great helmet and don’t care about new tech, there is an amazing $180 deal on the otherwise $450 Bell Full-9: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075RPKM4T?tag=outdoocom-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1

Tsg pass is looked as a standard here, but its rating is only for 5kmh crashes, but falling from 40kmh is probably going to be safe in it as well, but some people like me would like certified protection for sure
The closest I found to the good look, lightness and a reasonable price was the airoh valor

But cant find it without the really ugly graphics though…

The only issue with the TSG Pass is that it is 5 years old and helmet tech has improved a whole lot, particularly in terms of brain damage prevention. It might be the best longboard downhill helmet, but that is just because sadly none of the industry leaders seems to care about us enough to develop a helmet for our application.

Good deal! In the end what changed my mind is that the Full-9 Fusion is a 2019 update of a 7 year old helmet, replacing some older tech with MIPS and making it 50g lighter than the Carbon. I got mine for $230 USD delivered for the Fasthouse edition.

It has a DH rating, what’s with the incorrect info?

Never heard of the airoh one but that looks sleek. Nicely priced too. A black one pulled up on my search that looks to not have the graphics as bad.

My aviator ace is stuck on customs for 8 days now :rage:

Curious here, what improvements have we gained in the past five years? When I was researching helmets I had read that MIPS was shown to provide no advantage from brain injury over helmets without MIPS.

Its rated to 5kmh chrashes with the NF EN 1078+A1:02 you can check the certification specs pdf

Amd yes it has the astm f1952 rating but I couldnt find any info on how they tested it and the numbers on it…

I didnt say any false info, i just said what I could find on the internet
If it passes one cerfitication thats up to 5kmh, the other one cant be some thats 100kmh…

I want that or the white one exacly, too bad the store is in the US

Weird, it opens as a German site for me

Leave a review here if you buy, I like the look.

That’s the thing with the ASTM F1952 certification, it’s either certified or not, you won’t find any info on how because it’s not documented.

EN 1078 tests at 5-5.5m/s which is approximately 18km/h
Most motorcycle standards test at approximately 7.5m/s.

Its documented, how would testing agents even know know to test the helmets if it was not…

It just that you need to pay to see it…

Unless knowing the numbers its useless unless you fully trust it
But since there are a gazzilion of certifications out there id like to see numbers…

It’s 5m/s, not km/h. That’s just the certification, that says nothing about the speed the manufacturer used in it’s own test. For the ASTM F1952 certification only the chin bar of a full face helmet is tested. It’s either a pass or a fail, hence there is nothing else to document.

Wow! 126g deceleration against a curb after artificial aging. Burly test.

I found my own helmet on sale for half price. Can recommend. Ultra light dual sport and great fit. https://www.motardinn.com/motorcycle-equipment/airoh-s5-color/628348/p?utm_source=google_products&utm_medium=merchant&id_producte=3774332&country=us&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-YaA_LKi6QIVgR-tBh0PQgtyEAQYAiABEgLIqPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
