The Idea TB parts are so nice!!!
I wonder if thereās any advantage to mixing duros on the same truck like with Airs. Would be cool to see a tuning thread dedicated to these.
Definitely want to try. Open to suggestions about combos, but my intuition tells me harder duro boardside with softer roadside might help reduce the twitching in the back.
Only complaint I have, carving on these is making me fall in love with eskating all over again⦠canāt believe itās almost been a year since I set foot on a board!
So with Airs, I run the exact opposite, softer board side and harder road side. The soft bushings between the deck and trucks dampen a lot of vibration and the harder bushings road side help with stability. Using the search function on here doesnāt show much about these trucks so Iām curious to see what combo you end up settling on. Will be joining you in experimenting with these in a month or so, ordered 320mm hangers with 53mm axles.
Went back to my hometown for a few days of vacation, had the chance to test a bit more (no bushing changes since I forgot them
)
- Identified the remote issue: Progress log in its own thread
- Increased bushing preload in rear truck: Still need to test the harder duro, but noticeable improvement in stability. Iām loving these more and more with each km.
- Locking mechanisms: Theyāve survived the weekend with a few last minute prints and quick fixes I made before leaving. Will add them to the final design once Iām back.
Starting to feel confident, will push it offroad soon ![]()
Are the trucks on the same angles?
If not it may be worth considering a wedge in the back.
Yeah, theyāre about 35deg each. I say about because itās very difficult to make them 100% accurately with my mold. Iāll consider if the bushings donāt fully solve it, but had bad experiences in the past (bent screws, holes becoming oversized with timeā¦) and would like to avoid them if possible
See if you can get these in Europe maybe.
I think they would alleviate some of your concerns.
Do you have a video on these somewhere Joel @MBS
They are not just your average angled rider rightā¦
Ha, thatās actually very clever. Thanks for the tip!
No video yet, but we need one. Iāve put it on āthe listā.
This thing is so overengineered itās gonna start talking before my toddler does.
That click was super satisfying!!!
Hey wanted to check in and see how this build is treating you. Any chance to try different angles or bushing setups on the Double Deltas?
Hey! Been busy polishing the remote and havenāt had much chance to ride unfortunately ![]()
Hope to carve out some time this weekend, will report back!
I have good news and bad news. Letās start with the good, just because:
- Locking mechanism: 10/10 on pavement and light off-road. Will beat the shit out of it as soon as its not 1000°C outside (or I install lights for a night cruise)
- Remote issues: gone. Will update its own post.
- Trucks: a healthy amount of preload has led me to believe changing to the harder duro is probably not even necessary. They ride like clouds, carving is delightful and I feel very much in control of the board.
The bad:
- Remote magnetic springs might be too soft. Will probably double down with the magnets I have or try to find stronger ones (that are also not AliExpress special)
- Being that much comfortable with the trucks and remote made me go fasterā¦which wasnāt that much since I immediately hit the 40km/h top speed. Super underwhelming on pavementā¦I should have checked the calc before buying the motors and not trust they were āthe same kvā as my old ones. I suspect the old turnigys were more like 150-160kv vs. the advertised 138.
I do have 20T pulleys, not sure about compatible belts. Will probably give it a try to squeeze an extra 10-15km/hā¦hoping the torque will still be there.
Turned out I didnāt have 20T pulleys so I had to wait for themā¦
Weāre SO BACK. I also updated to steel since they were not outrageously expensive.
The board feels amazing now, letās see how it behaves off-road. Might have to bump the amps a little, but should have plenty of headroom (sitting at 120 motor amps right now, DV6s should be capable of 180)
I expect itās a great time of the year to ride thereā¦
Itās prime time over here.
Great weather started this week! Hope itāll last ![]()
Took it offroad, and experienced true, unadultered, organic, non-GMO esk8 bliss again.
All joking aside, if itās been a while and youāre working on fixing your board/getting a new board together and struggling with motivation, this is the signal youāve been waiting for:
Push a little bit harder and get out there. Remember why we do this.
Life happens, sometimes reality hits like a freight train. Itās ok, hell, itās necessary to take some time and do things you genuinely enjoy. Thanks all for sharing the journey!
