I’ve herd mix feelings good on 12mm axle
wobbly on 8mm
People that I know have tried them
@Taraskasyanyuk
@bboybowzer
And maybe me still debating
Check out the Fivestars dude.
I have a set on the tow truck. Honestly I have not paid that much attention to how they do.
Seems fine. Looks ok.
But they are 15 bucks. And 165 grams vs Trampas 226 grams.
They definitely look nice!
I’d liked to see them on kendas 909
Yeah I wasn’t a fan though, was very wobbly for me and I don’t know if it was the 8mm axles or something else… but I sold them.
Agree with @rafaelinmissouri though, can never go wrong with MBS. Running some rockstar 2s rn and they’ve been my favorite hub for a while.
Hey @rafaelinmissouri , if it doesn’t affect your shipping costs, would you be willing to order me some 9” mudpluggers and ship to me? Haha
Plan sounds solid.
I‘m a big fan of chains, so you have my vote on this one.
I‘m not familiar with the #25 size, but 68T sounds pretty big. I like to have a bit more clearance.
Also the gearing 12/68 with 140kV will lack on speed. I‘m not a speed demon at all, but the 9“ build I had on 1/6.25 with 170kV motors was just too slow in the end.
I usually set my gearing around 50km/h which is the sweet spot for me.
About high voltage I can’t say much because I do run my Uboxes with 12S only.
With my 12s6p vtc6 pack I get around 30-35km on mixed terrain but flat ground. 20-25km if it’s more difficult terrain and less than 20km if I send it hard
So 12s5p p42 should be a good sized pack.
Thanks Andy,
I sure appreciate your wisdom
I have been running Chains on the Tow Truck and they have been ok. I think #25 is probably smaller than what most everyone out there in foreigner land uses. but I don’t think the chain will break. motor pulleys wear down somewhat fast, but no major issue there.
I had it mixed up and the wheel pulley I have is actually 62 tooth. I will let you know the diameter. but the clearance is ok.
on the tow truck with 190kV motors i am running 10/70 and the 70 is pretty big, but still has not caused me any issues clearance wise…
here is clearance on the 70 tooth
so, the tow truck is geared to about 50 km(30 miles)
I think for the Haero I might start off with 11/62 - and I could go up or down 10/62 or 12/62.
I can live with a bit less than 50 on the top end I think. I am heavy at 230 lbs. 105kg with gear. so I want to lean towards torque. but i really want to get by with the 6374s.
I have not really put much thought into high voltage, and will be a lagger in adopting that stuff…
so for now 12S it is.
and for now I will use the Unity with the heat sink.
So, so far so good.
just need to find some cells to buy, and some bindings.
Sounds like a plan. Good that it’s not a big of a deal to change gearing with chains…
I always hope to get it to the point where I do not need the offset link thou ![]()
Clearance is looking good on the picture above.
I started to use smaller chains based on your experience and so far the 05b size does hold up well on mine too. That’s 9:40 right now on 8“ but will go for 45T soon I guess.
I have a chain setup also using #25. Actually I just gave it to someone. running 14/70. Clearance sucked on 8" wheels. Working on a design for a 45-50T wheel sprocket. Also was looking into getting motor gears 9-11T cut with a keyway because set screws aren’t enough and have them carburized to try and extend life.
I really liked the chains. Just not a refined enough setup yet.
I had to use an offset link for a little bit, and it scared the hell out of me, with that tiny tiny cotter pin.
I don’t have it on the tow truck anymore…
Alex.
do you know about #25H?
I just learned about it recently.
Same size sprockets.
But the chain uses thicker side plates, so in theory it will stretch less.
bottom on is the #25H

i put red loctite on the motor shaft to hold motor pulleys without keys.
in fact i don’t mess with keys anymore as i have not had issues…
My first ride the chain stretched so much I was pretty surprised because of how short it is. This is interesting tho. I’ll have to try it on the next chain setup.
I hate having to remove Loctite with a torch and such. It is probably better but I’m a keyway man until the end.
Where are you guys getting your gears and stuff from?
Do you mean sprockets?
Welp.
Bunch a stuff now on order…
Still need to find bindings…
No turning back now…
Yeah sorry, sprockets and chain
@Keanuarr
Depending on where you are located and if you have the tools to drill the sprockets out by your own or you want them to fit to the hub directly.
UK/EU - I can recommend „Gears and Sprockets“. They do custom bore size and grub screw holes for the motor sprockets.
Pricing is not too bad as well in my opinion.
US - I haven’t been looking much there, but I know you can get some from McMaster.
If you need sprockets ready to go, than ETOXX is the shop you should look for. They sell chains and sprockets ready to mount.
They might be out of stock on the website, but that’s not always up to date.
Write them a mail or @NoWind a PM and he will tell you if the sprockets really out of stock or not.
