You tryna say somebody on the internet is wrong?
you got the bad stuf
you always mention how bad your kapton smells
i personally like it, the one i got smells sweet
fuck you!
and fuck me too!
indeed
as tech.shit has said
itâs thin, strong, a great elecical and heat insulator
and if you canât bear to buy some tape, pack building may not be best suited for you
there are good options out there that work fairly well without being the official kapton, you just gotta peep around a little
donât cheap out too much on a pack either, your livelihood is at stake here
thereâs a reason kapton is used in the aviation and space industry, itâs cause that shit reliable
sure you can use whatever tape you want but you risk failure over time, unless it has a similar track record to kapton
This was kind of an experiment⌠turned out to be a pain in the ass but at the same time it was challenging and fun. Definitely not the prettiest soldering I have done, but it was really hard to get those conductors right. I get bored easily so sometimes you just have to freeball. I still wasnât happy with it but sometimes you just have to walk away.

This looks fuckin great
If you werenât already using them, the tiny 2â red spring clamps could assist in holding the wires in place while soldering that pattern. Thin enough to slip under the nickel & not damage the wire insulation
Got a link by chance?
Whenever I post unsolicited advice I try to make it as accessible as possible
I think I was able to find an Amazon bundle that was $3.5-$4 shipped for ~8 a year or so ago which was all I really needed so I took it, but those types of offers go up and down pretty quickly per seller so the link is dead. More is usually better, especially if youâre building batteries on the reg⌠but fuck I didnât want 30 clips fuckin around my tiny space haha
I also like to have these Black 6â spring clamps around for esk8âŚ
4 of them is a good amount IMO, thereâs 2 for $6ish if you search term black 6 inch spring clamp on Amazon. They also come with red rubber, or also fully black metal⌠and the 2â spring clamps also come with black rubber if you like to indulge in color coordination⌠
Can you solder next to them? I use forceps that donât take on any solder. But they are a pain some times.
Pretty much. For your S wires, they definitely donât need to be touching bare wire at all. Keep them on the silicone insulation & itâs more than enough force to keep everything jigged to solder, especially if things are properly tinned. Can even jig with the clamps on the insulation & then forcep the actual joint if youâre a megaderp
Maybe l am a megaderp, but those s bends were tricky as hell to solder. They never quite laid like you wanted them to.
Yuh, Iâm saying lay the bends in their entirety with the spring clamps. Then go joint to joint with the forceps.
Sorry if unclear, Iâm bad at explaining soldering to people anymore.
I really like the aesthetic of the S bends.
@Battery_Mooch are they actually beneficial in any meaningful way for esk8 power consumption tho?
No âŚif I understand your question
In theory, the S-bends add resistance (where the two longer leads are used) and having only two connections per tab concentrates the current more than having three connections spaced across the tab. That increases the resistance and heating of the connections. Only by a tiny bit, but not zero.
I donât think there is any practical difference to worry about as long as the two connections (per tab) are done well. Makes for a great looking pack too. ![]()
LOL
Sounds like something Iâd expect somebody named Vince would say
The us kweld guy sells good stuff for cheap.
I understood what you were saying. What I was saying is it was still very challenging even with my bag of tricks and tools.
What if he sets it to Wumbo
UmmâŚdoes he have a board?
Wait, sets it or sells it?
Being blissfully Sponge-Bob-ignorant your comment flew over my head at Mach 5. ![]()
