The battery builders club

I may actually go and get a second lipo lol, my wires got noticibly warm after about 5 welds. Battery uses 10awg leads which is the problem

Hitting it with a Dremel cutoff wheel to check for sparks is usually another good test, however I once had what I believe was nickel plated steel somehow not spark? Was strange.

If you have a good scale (.01 or .001g) and a good way to make a precise cut (like a guillotine cutter or quality scissors) you should be able to weigh and compare densities. Whatever Chinesium steel alloy used in fake nickel could come fairly close to pure nickel tho…

Ahh, I do have those things.

first step done

voltage tested
glued
fishpapered
ready for welding

Looking good!

yeah sorry
just easier to put them on when all cells are stacked together

after around 70 welds my electrodes get hot enough that i gotta stop welding
is that normal?

also kweld is so much better then any other welder wooooooooow

looking good?

maybe a tad to hot but overall not bad (one on the bottom left was much to high settings still)

The welder probes get hot pretty quick yeah. Just take some breaks to let them cool down.
(A fan blowing on the probes helps)

Yup kweld is the best welder out there that doesn’t cost a fortune

Those welds look pretty good so far.
Just remember to not weld in the center 3mm of the negative side of the cell.

yeah
thanks a lot

will try to avoid the center

Have you done the pull test? Do these welds stick well?

Do it like this for example

does the centre rule only apply for the negative?

also they survive the pull test very well
nickel rips around the weld leaving remnants there

Yes only the negative side of the cell. That’s where it is internally connected.

Perfect.

thanks a lot man
how come you did circles on the pos then? just easier that way or for a reason

Welds are stronger the further the probes are apart and the circle comes from that
