Why you don’t want to make 18650 packs anymore?
There are better cells to work with. No offense to @glyphiks, ain’t nobody got time to work on 14s14p packs.
I also suspect the 40t, 42a, and 21700/20600 whatever market has less knockoff cells circulating in it than the 18650 market.
If you get a sick, sick deal on 30Qs, do it, it’s not a bad cell, but for a performance pack, there are easier options.
30q still offer pretty outstanding power to weight ratio. Fight me.

Molicel 21700 P42A 4200mAh 45A Battery $ 5.99 a cell vs Samsung 40T 21700 4000mAh 35A Battery $3.99 a cell. Whats the difference performance wise.
Did you test the cells or just charge em up? I’ve still been running them in a 12s8p, and pulling 100A from them makes them sag 6v. Not sure if that’s bad or not… BMS says they are barely even getting warm after a ride, at most 5-6 C above ambient.
P42A’s will give a bit more run time vs 40T’s down to 3.2V. Temperatures within a degree-C or two from each other. 30T’s the better (more efficient) choice above about 25A or so.
Seems like both are pretty much the same. But one is $1 more per cell.
Quick vibe check before continuing. kWeld set to 60J on 0.2mm nickel strip, on a test cell I didn’t get shredding until ~65J range, which I think is pretty high compared to the ~30 I used for 0.15 nickel.
30J*(0.2mm/0.15mm)^3 ~= 70J. I am not an expert in spot-welding at all but seems fine to me
Hm… Mine welded fine at 42j, 50 was too hot, on 0.2.
Is your battery fully charged?
This was done at just over nominal voltage, ~3.75 ish. Below 60J I can still easily pull off the nickel but the welds just look a tad hot to me.
This is total Battery amps for 2 stormcores and total motor amps between 4 motors. this however was likely only held for a fraction of a second
Looks like the Samsung 30T beat them both, I’m looking for high torque and hill climbing ability at stable temps. Thanks for the reply
