The battery builders club

Maybe…sad face… I’ve gotten money outta this boss welder but maybe time to go kweld in the future if i decide to build.more…

I have to max out the settings on this 3s battery to get sticky results… And an occasional sanding/filing of the probes to keep em fresh…

What kind of battery? Perhaps more amps will keep the pulse time and the heat down.
I used a 3s3p SPIM08 (on sale now at BCH for $40 shipped) with fantastic results on .2mm thick nickel on both the Malectrics and the Kweld.

is it me or is it a bit puffy?
might just need a new battery
go for a higher C rating battery though, that’s on the low end to begin with

Yeah it gets a lil puffy during a days hard work but once it cools it settles down… Def gotten use out of it as well building batteries…

This would be less than that then… I mean a couple years maybe but only used for buikding packs… So like 7-8 batteries… Mostly 12s

Are my expectations to high for that Lipo and it’s longevity

isn’t puffy about how hard you use it. shorting it to spot weld does seem harsh.

what would increase it’s longevity in a spot welding application. does more time between welds help? generally keeping it at higher SoC all the time? ( no idea, just guessing / wondering )

I have the 5000 mah 60c that the kweld site recommended too. I’m wondering how long it’ll last. pretty sure everyone gets a better battery. or another in parallel.

It’s harsh. like battery torture harsh.
I had a smaller battery for my first and it did NOT like the longer pulses required for thicker nickel. everything would heat up and shit wouldn’t stick. Had to step up my game, welds all day now.

Your expectations of that specific lipo in that specific application are probably a bit generous. You need either more C-rating, or more capacity, or (preferably) both.

And yes, you destroyed that cell. That distinctive fruity odor is the death gurgle of a lithium battery.

I dont know if theres anything fruity about it… Def chemical tho lol

Different companies and cell types use different solvents. Most of the ones I’ve encountered had a fruity note.

On this note tho… Anyone US got a single Sanyo cell for me?? Otherwise I’ll guess I’ll eBay it in a bit =\

…and also if anyone wants to link me to.my next Lipo i.should get… Best budget Lipo for this welder. Thx

Let this be a lesson to ye, always have a couple spare cells on hand.

Somestimes i do but the last few packs i went without because the extras always went.to waste =\

Hey battery experts
My friend’s Meepo battery is dying and he’ll need to replace it
Would a 10S3p 21700 Molicel be ok with an Hobbywing ESC and Hubs, or do he need to build the battery with the same cells? (In his Classic V2 it’s 35E If I remember well)

You just need to satisfy the amperage requirement of the ESC as the minimum possible cell output. I believe that number is 32A for their lingyi ESC but hard to be absolutly sure of that.

It’s an Hobbywing ESC in his board
This basically means any cell better that the 35E will be ok?
