Just note that it makes the balance leads much more complex, where ever the BMS is has to have a wire to every single parallel group plus the main current carriers. You might want to look into either laying down a ribbon cable in the deck to keep it neat. This will negate the splitter as it would be a single battery, just stretched

Alternative you could try using 2 BMSs (8s in the front and 4s in the rear). Note that you can NOT plug both chargers into the same power circuit or it will short out on the ground line in the wall and blow something up. You’ll need the splitter for this, make sure it’s in series not parallel or it will be a bad day

I really wish I could advise you on this without a doubt in the back of my head, but tbh I’m not the best with batteries :joy:

has nobody tried making a full length undertray on a vanguard. I figured someone would have tried that considering the amount of vanguard chinese clones…

I guess the closest thing to that is a slick rev board.

You can make 2 separate packs, each with their own charger and BMS associated with them, each shrink wrapped and made pretty. Only catch is you must charge them separate. Make sure you use a series connector for the 2 packs and the ESC (or the parallel splitter that goes to both ESCs if it’s a dual motor)

If you charge on the same power grid they will short out over the negative wires of your house and that’s very bad, other than that it’s fine.

You may want to put a removable extender from one enclosure to the other in the deck so the battery does not have exposed leads but can be removed (as shown above)

You’re not making any sense here. If you want 12S and you have an 8S and a 4S pack they would be wired in series to get 12S. You cannot wire two differing voltages in parallel.

If you were to have two separate BMS’s that could potentially work.

yeah 2 BMS’ s sorry, and I’m totally up for advise on it. I’ve seen a similar build on the web somewhere with custom carbon fiber enclosure it was slim and sexy, but I’m welling to double stack

Need some advice asap, currently welding a pack

Making a 12s4p from salvaged 30Q cells (supposedly 10 cycles) and a 12s3p from new 30Q cells to run in parallel as a 12s7p for my eMTB

Salvaged cells have been ground and rewrapped because the OG welds were ass and the wraps got ruined in the process, otherwise fine

40 of the salvaged cells are at 3.82V after a while in storage, 4 cells are 3.75V, 2 cells are 3.67V, 1 cell is 3.56V, 1 cell is 3.37V

I have 40 new cells at 3.45V give or take 0.01V

  • Make a new parallel pack from new cells
  • Make a parallel pack from old cells
  • Mix new cells into the old parallel packs (4 groups of 3 old 1 new)
  • Mix new cells into the old parallel packs (2 groups of 3 old 1 new, 2 groups of 3 old 2 3.75Vs)
  • Mix the bad cells into the parallel packs (4 groups of 3 old 2 bad)

I think your best bet is to keep the cells separate, make a pack from the new cells and a pack from the old cells and then parralel them at the xt90, this way when the old cells take a dump. Which will probably be sooner then the new cells, you can toss that pack but still have a reliable pack made of newer cells. Also I would try to bring the cells as close as possible to the same charge

I mean I know I shouldn’t use unknown cells and mix them but like I can’t afford more new cells and this was from like last year when I was brand new to this hobby and dumb as a rock

Yes that was the plan, I have 2 BMSs for them and will use a splitter for charge/discharge for them once they are all up to voltage

So a 12s4p battery of 10 p-packs of old 3.82V, a p-pack of old 3.75V (brought up to 3.82), a p-pack of new 3.45V (brought up to 3.82V) with its BMS then another 12s3p battery of 12 p-packs of new 3.45V cells right?

Yeah 2 packs is totally fine

Maybe make them with an XT90s connector in the middle so you can isolate the packs while charging that doubles as your loop key
