The battery builders club

@BillGordon By chance do you have pictures of the cell layout and a link to the gasket you used?

I bought this from @Linny , and he built out a custom permanent gasket on it. I use a simple tube gasket to finish it off.

I need to pop it off tomorrow, so I’ll add pictures of the built-out gasket.

Thanks! I might need to reconsider my battery choice then…

The 12s5p 30q is double stacked above each cell, it might fit if you do a stagger. Keyword on ‘might’

You can’t do this unless you use a thicker rubber gasket and remove some parallel cells.

Going to be building a 16s6p pack for an upcoming build.
I want the pack to be able to to 120A continuous, 180A burst.

They will be mounted in a 3d printed spacer like this:

This is my preliminary layout.
Every 6 cells is a p-group.
Black stripes are 0.2 x 20mm nickel strip.
Double black means 0.3 x 20mm nickel strip.

According to Conductor Current Ratings [SRO] this should be fine, feedback about nickel and p-group layout would be appreciated.

Did you consider using double wide nickel?

I’m having trouble finding the right width and thickness combination so the plan was two layers of 0.1*20mm per cell to cell. The cells are P42A’s

Hmm yeah it does get complicated

I gotta say I freaking love these pre cut nickel tabs.

Also today I tried the thing with my maectrics where the positive lead stays in place and I go around with the negative.

And I like it…

With the pre cut nickel are you just going for one layer as it is 0.2mm thick ?

Cool welding btw.

Yep. Just one sweet layer of easy welding.

This is going on one of @BenjaminF PCB kit.

I don’t have the series connections done yet.

But it is this guide.

This bears no importance, but I thought it was cool and I wanna share…you can fit 2 of these 6s 5.8 Ah lipo batteries in a Meepo V3 battery enclosure…it leaves no room for a BMS or even wires but if you’re feeling creative you can

what is the point of the holes in the nickel?

are you sure about that. pretty sure that it can fit another row

Just arrived…

dat is a lot of cells
50g?

The slot prevents a straight electrical path between the two welding electrodes, and thus forces the full weld current to go down into the cell and back up, rather than just going across though the nickel strip.
Makes for more consistent welds with better penetration for a given power setting.

(Obviously this only works if you put your electrodes on opposite sides, straddling the slot.)

ah cool
makes sense

thanks a lot
