SmartCharger - One to rule them all

This is less and less the case but these last years we saw tons of builds with 12S3-4P for dual setup
And because obviously there is a ridiculous brake amperage, they often boost it up.
From my point of view, today, the trend goes to huge pack, cells are less stressed.

Yea people do charge for short periods at really high amperage braking. Maybe it’s even good for the cells smoothing dendrites. Maybe. Probably not. Can’t find that open source clear cell design now!

UPDATE

I FINALLY received the v0.2 prototypes batch.
This damn virus posteponed the arrival quite a lot (orderedz on 1st of February).

I wrote up a test procedure this time for doing stuffs in the right order. :slightly_smiling_face:
I also bought a ESP-WROOM-32 programmer to ease that task (way easier to program the MCU this way instead of doing it in on the board).

Things are getting more and more professional :sunglasses:

Stay tuned !

Things are going slooooowly… :unamused:

I fixed a buzzer issue pretty straight forward but then…
I spent a loooot of time to understand why the module were not booting properly.
After playing with resistors and caps I finally figured out that my f@#king power supply had a really slow ramp up for powering the 5V rail.

Hopefully, I invested into a RIGOL DS1074Z a couple of months ago.
Not a waste of money !

So I hooked up the PCB to the same setup that will be used (600W AC/DC power supply + 90V-5V DCDC converter).
Ugly noises everywhere. :face_vomiting:

I’ll try to add more cap too on 5V rail (currently 22uF).

Then, another issue : unreliable comm. with DPS
I already lowered to 9600 bauds.
Something weird : the Rx line is polluted by the Tx line, but not the opposite…

I’ll try to shield the wires but it’s annoying because I designed the board and its connectors to be compatible straight forward with the included cable.

I switched all my equipment to my home as we’re entering lockdown in France.
This is kind of war climate. Really strange feeling.

Let’s see if we can sort all it out before the end of the world.

What active bms did you use?

have you seen this one

No, I didn’t know this product.
However, it seems just like a DPS5020 but with an wireless comm between power board and control panel, no ?

it’s buck/boost and higher voltage

description says buck and boost, but nothing else really does… I’m getting one Thursday, will test

theres also a 24 amp version

alrighty got it in, it’s awesome, but does NOT boost, just buck like the others, higher input/output voltage though. supports multiple power modules per control panel which is nice
the control panel has a built-in battery btw, so it is completely wireless

So If I connect a 13s as input then output is 54.6v and below only? It will not boost to 60v in theory?

it does not boost at all, it needs atleast 1.1x input voltage of what you want to output

Ahhh so it’s only a step down…

yep, just like the dps50xx

Thanks! :love_you_gesture:t3:

oh btw the 48v Meanwell can be cranked to 55v, just don’t exceed 80ish % of it’s rated amperage

That high amp one would be interesting with a high amp 60V PS!
Like this one: https://a.aliexpress.com/_d9bthA4

Found it on eBay: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F163691525142

This complete unit is also nice for lower amps though: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000282551930.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.1.384f2f3fLXinwp

This might be the oem? Line-up:

Doesn’t look like the mfg is Ruideng for these things.

Really interesting !
I know this brand! I built a standalone power network ifor an isolated chalet using their product.
It does the job althoigh it was strangely designed.

I’ll have a look (I need to figure out if the comm. allows me to perform the same stuffs than DPS).
