Agree with everything except “ground clearance” and “being locked to wheels”. One can use pneumatics and bigger wheels; and second is solved by using adapters.
I can point to how improvements can be made and all that but yes, belt and drives will always have upper hand in almost all the areas, but I am pretty sure DD is here to stay.
For sub/around 1000$ “premium” chineese prebuilt hubs will probably be slowly phased out for DD. Cheaper board will still have hubs but hey thats my 2c
