*SCAM ALERT* neoBOX open source Focbox variant (HW 4 and HW6 Design)

HAH I’m gonna use that. Great one

Yeah like @Scepterr just said, maybe they could have left the power wires in a slot, because then you could just unscrew it and tilt it over to look at the bottom if you encountered issues.

to be fair i am also guilty of that, first world problems and all that…

I’m just a little peeved there wasn’t any community input on the new case, assuming this design is final and currently being milled…

This, for sure.

I don’t think many(if any) things would have been taken into consideration given the production of the 500 ‘v2’ units started before a majority of the beta testers even gave their opinions :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

If I’m not mistaken Jeff said that they would start milling the cases this weekend, so they had time to get input from the testers

right, but none was asked for…

IMHO these are 3d renderings and not photos, but it is something to think about. I like the idea of using holes for phase wires. You can use off-the-shelf grommets to seal these wires. It makes absolutely no sense to use one hole and one U-cut for battery wires. Overall, too many cutouts, and because of that, almost impossible to seal the case.
I’m still interested in buying HW6 flavor once we all get over all that drama. I will make my own case, so I know it is water tight.
In a month or so, the dust will settle, and we will know everything we need to know.
BTW: I have experience in doing business in Asia and I can tell you that everything is a moving target (I worked with ARTOPZ the owner, really cool dude, who put 2 millions into the company with zero result. Here are some photos from the CES in Las Vegas. https://www.facebook.com/61566927800/photos/ms.c.eJxN0FEKwCAMg~_EbjSbVqve~;2MAx~_r~_FkM1PS3PtGN4RT315dZ7oC~;1C3ticzgpkMfe3SvSJHh7BI3jueX~_GTQsbOAWnNnqaT~;eG34EefhsZd~;FgxgZmFzbwG2bDadgStoQt8c4JZ93~;vCedYxk~-.bps.a.61575272800/61578157800/?type=3&theater)
I’m not here to excuse Jeff, but he has very little control over how things are, so give him some slack.
I’m sure he wants to make it happen as much as you do.
My 2 cents.

wtf is that thing? it looks like an alien egg or something. cool looking but likely full of chest burster eggs, if i was wearing a red shirt on an away mission there is no way i would go anywhere near it

Maybe… he did say that the v2 case would be different do to the input, well I think I read it somewhere
But only when we can see the photos of the v2 case will we know for sure, the renders can be misleading
But with all this drama I will only believe in what my eyes show me when I receive my neoboxes

he did take input from the v1 case, but none on the redesigned v2 case/render, since we’re just seeing it today

I am pretty sure the community was asking for a way to seal the case against water and dust, with rubber grommets… That’s exactly what I see in this case…

Ability to mount would have been nice, what suggested changes exactly didn’t make it into the design that we can see, besides the standoff mounting? I don’t think you can have plug and play without disassembly while also having water resistance…

All in all I am okay with the design, I do not need water and dust protection, and either way I won’t even be using the case to begin with and I need to solder all new leads on when I get them anyway so for me it’s all just whatever.

I am using the case from the first batch and it’s nice to just toss in an enclosure after you get everything plugged in… tldr is that it’s hard to satisfy everybody with one design… and this one has its merits, seeming to favor sealing it all up… whatever… it’s alright.

Yeah it ends up being the eternal struggle of satisfying every customer, and while this one isn’t as service friendly, neither is an iPhone.

the water resistance wanted is possible without this apparent regression in serviceability

Besides the leads, I don’t see much of a regression. There could have been the slots like before with custom injection molded inserts as grommets to slide in place…

But yeah… I think I agree… having to desolder leads to get under the PCB is kind of rough.

it doesn’t have to be custom molded, I’m confident there’s an off the shelf rectangle grommet with 2 holes available and the case made to suit it

Like I said I will believe the changes when I get my neoboxes and see them for myself

Organic design home entertainment and management system.
Cool and expensive.
In short “brain fart” And now you know.
