As an outsider of the Esk8 community and a FOSS enthusiast I found a lot of this discussion very interesting!

But this is a total, anihilative, merciless hijack to a thread that was intended for tracking/discussing things Jeff/Neo want to share through Github, in relation to their projects. Granted right now these repositories seem to be placeholders, but from what I’ve seen so far @jeffwuneo is a man of action, so I think it’s reasonable to expect that there will be something substantial shared there.

Given that Jeff asked to keep this thread clean for this purpose, I can imagine he must be a bit frustrated with this derrailing.

Maybe consider splitting the conversation into a separate thread? (though it might be a messy job to do right) This way it could also continue with no guilt for trespassing

It cannot be denied that a lot of work went into the VESC Tool this year, but how much of it was actually desired by users and how much by Frank stearing the software to his own purpose. Also, how much was done by other people and then ‘copied’ to the VESC Tool?. Compared to a year ago, the current UI is garbage, its more confusing to new users than ever before, it contains features that add complexity but do not increase dependability.

By the sound of it VESC project has a single point of failure. What are we to do one day when Benjamin croaks, and there’s no documentation, and he’s the only one that understands the code base?

“Hit by a bus” is a pretty common colloquial term used in projects or companies where there are high risk single points of failure.

I’ve been in a number of meetings where a “hit by a bus” clause or plan has been actively & casually discussed.

It’s not intended to be solely “this person dies” in this context. It’s a "what happens if this person doesn’t want to do this, moves on, retires, gets kidnapped by aliens. Intended as a catch-all phrase.

Maybe it’s a cultural thing. Like thinking it’s okay to draw politics into unrelated conversation.

I think the insinuation being made is that if only BV is developing VESC project, when that development ends, the project will too. It has nothing to do with trademark.

I think you might be reading a bit too far into that, trying to add perspective.

at my work we talk about me ‘hitting a bus’ when we talk about my single points of failure … they all know I esk8 it also drives the message home when on a monday after I’ve had a fall and limp into the office LOL
