Most seem to agree that the TB have the best soft formula wheels. But if color is your primary driver, then blue is the only option and only for certain sizes.
Others have tried Senior Pepe wheels, manufactured in California. @BillGordon reviews them as decent quality but not quite equal to TB. Senior Pepe has some flashy colors.
Only red at the moment and 90mm. But if you want black, look for Ollin Popoca 90mm. Iāve set my Senor Pepes aside for a shorter 50xx build I have in mind.
To simplify your search, I recommend using the White HyperDrive 90mm 77a wheels and then just dying them with some rit dye of your choosing. The dye process is affordable, really easy, and since the wheels are white you can choose whichever color you want. Hopefully that helps a bit!
The difference in hardness is quite noticeable, not only do you have less grip but the ride smoothness is heavily affected. The only benefit from harder wheels that I personally know of is rolling distance, the harder your wheels are the longer youād be able to roll without having to kick again ⦠but because youāre using an electric board, you have no reason to worry about rolling distance. I would stick with 77a, or even softer, if your main focus is keeping an enjoyable ride, and only ever consider anything harder if you plan on doing any sliding or have the intent of kick pushing your electric board most of the time.
TLDR: Yes, the difference between 77a and 80a are noticeable
To put it simply, 90mm should give you enough clearance for the tactile paving shown in the picture you shared. I recommend only using 85mm whenever youāre riding on surfaces that are nearly as smooth as an outdoor tennis court. This would help ensure that your motors take less damage, but also because riding smaller wheels on bumpy surfaces can be far less enjoyable.
Hoping to be part of the Revel crew soon! My best friend and I ordered in mid-April. Thank you for all the valuable info Iāve read in this thread so far. Still feeling really good about my purchase, but also canāt wait to get it!
If their urethane formulation is good I think Iāll go with them. 77a to 78a isnāt too bad and they are 90mm! (And I donāt have to learn how to dye wheels for now)
Hi guys, as you may know i am stuck right now not being able to order my Revel Kit due to international shipping issues and as I dont know If/When are they going to resume international shiping I was looking for some other possible alternatives, and in doing that I came to realize how small the Revel Battery is considering its range, I mean, I saw other brands with same size battery but less range, or even bigger size battery and less range!
So I wonder what kind of battery the Revel has and how could it be so small given it range. Āæanybody can explain? may be motors being direct drives has something to do with it?
Theyāre genuine Samsung cells, and you should always take range ratings with a grain of salt because they are usually taken at like speed mode 2 on flat ground.
My real world XR battery range is about 13-15 miles, will vary depending on rider weight, terrain, speed of the board, etc.
Spent my morning reading through this thread, loads of really great Revel info! Wish Iād read it before as the Revel Manual / Website arenāt super flush with detailed info. Anyway - recently bought a Revel Kit [Extended Range 2WD] here in the UK, shipping took around 3 and a half weeks which was pretty reasonable given the Corona situation - not cheap but it got here. Attached the kit to my old Globe 39" Pintail.
Love riding the kit so far, but after just ~20km of urban riding in London, this morning my board wonāt power up at all - itās totally dead.
I wondered if anyone else has had a similar situation or might know the cause??
Iāve had about 4 rides so far, the most recent being an 8km ride. I got the low voltage vibrate right at the end of the ride - lucky timing - which seems about right reading the above about 6 charging cycles or so being required on new batteries. Iāve not ridden in the rain. Charged the battery, went to ride this morning and no power up at all. Came back in, charged the battery again to rule that out and same problem.
Bought it partially to be able to skate to work when things re-open so I hope itās fixable
I have no idea what black magic he used to teleport these wheels but they arrived today - not even 2 full days after I ordered them, internationally. The package arrived faster than some domestic orders! He must have found a wormhole somewhere in Taiwan?
Only had time to install them so far but I love the vibe of the board now!
Timo has his own jet, and hand-delivers all orders. Sure, he loses roughly $98,000 on every order, but the smiles on the faces of the esk8 children are worth it.
Just a little update to my dead board issue, as @angrypage kindly gave me an idea by dm, in case anyone else has a similar issue:
Iāve only been trying to charge the battery with the little dock it comes with. So I just tried plugging the board itself into the charger, which showed green on the charger; then I tried to turn the board on and it flashed a ring of blue once then remained dead. A few goes at taking the battery out and in, blowing air past the contacts, and re-plugging in and out the charger and I finally got it to turn on!
ā¦The caveat being that the battery showed as 2 bars of 5, after two lots of charging.
I then plugged the charger in which showed green again, so I unplugged and put everything back together one last time and itās now charging properly (charger shows as red not green) - so will monitor it for now. Iām guessing I have either a battery issue or some form of connection/power problem in the drive itself, but will update as I go / as I hear from Revel. At least I can now confirm my total distance so far - 20.6km.
Update: After 20 mins, the charge went to green - Turned the drive on, to be shown it was now at 3 bars of 5. Repeated, and same happened again, showing 4 bars of 5 after around twenty minutes of charging before going from red to green.
Two more charging restarts required to get it to all 5 bars, but could turn it on. Left it half an hour (now no longer on charge), went out to test ride and it wouldnāt power on, at all. Dead again. Went back inside, plugged the revel into the charger, and after a couple of goes it turns on. Took the charger lead out, and it would power on but shut itself off after around 5-10 seconds. Happened twice in a row. I then left it for half an hour again (not plugged in) and it wonāt power on at all.
Strong sense here that my maybe my battery is not a good one.
I think you have diagnosed this as an intermittent connection in the battery. I recommend you send a message to Revel support, describe the intermittent connection and ask for permission to dissassemble the battery and look for the broken connection. If you identify the broken lead and fix it, you are back on the road. If you fail, then your warranty will be intact for a replacement.
@BearBoi I exchanged an email with Jason asking if he was willing to sell you a remote and send it to you via china post. He replied that he can help yo and wants you to contact him via email.
Sweet I will go ahead and send him an email right away. I previously assumed china shipping was a no go, but perhaps shipping something as small as a remote is not too hard.
