These drives are completely smooth! Probably attributed to a good ESC and remote. Produces a really strange UFO like hum (not like belts), which at high speed turns into a high pitched squeal. I have yet to test it out a bit more.
They produce awesome torque - that’s what I have discovered, too much for my body weight. However, the top speed (in a non-ride freewheel test) is 43km/h. Which in comparison to my Bustin’s are 50km/h. Not that I’ll ever ride at these speeds anyway. I have not tested for speed wobbles yet.
However I have become slightly worried that these drives are somewhat not very good for uneven surfaces because of their closeness to the ground, I cannot take the risk of putting the 76mm Ahmyo Akashas on them, as the motor cans are 68mm dias. that’s like a 4mm clearance… you can imagine normal trucks that end up getting chipped and ground upon at a higher clearance, but worse. The chances of direct drive motors getting damaged are too much of a risk for my liking.
I’m somewhat still really happy with the Dualomo hub motors, (which according to @jeffwuneo are the same as Backfire?), which just needs a better ESC to match the smoothness of these Revel Kits.
The greatest benefits for me would be :
the “unlimited” range or at least 45km if I carry a spare battery pack, the swappable batteries are truly are godsend.
the ability to swap decks at ease and test them on all sorts of decks, really dig this, as well as costing much much less than the mellows.
I really like the remote, and the fact that though it has a reverse mode which I really hate, the speed has to drop to zero before reverse can be engaged, something my previous experience with a cheap and early remote did not have, which was a death wish waiting to happen.
As stated before, would be the ground clearance of all forms of direct drives.
Weight (this kit is really heavy at 5kg - the mellow kit would be much lighter at 3.9kg), but then it also makes a shortboard setup, which I have them on, feel extremely planted.
I don’t have a Revel, but had the Landwheel from before which was heavier. besides the battery possibly adding weight They use a large metal plate/platform across the whole unit to house all the electronics. Mellow uses magnesium allow I think which is really light, and their electronics are housed in a small area which has a void of metal where the battery goes. Lastly, I think the motors are smaller on the Mellow…like a 6355 vs 6374
I might need to give this another go! Only tried endless mode once and I wasn’t quite bought into it. The kick push seemed a bit unnatural to me at the time. Maybe it just takes some getting used to.
Side story: I was actually riding with Killian and Johannes the founders of Mellow when I tried the endless mode They did a US west coast tour couple years ago and got to meet them here in San Diego, CA. These dudes are quite possibly the most ‘mellow’ guys I’ve ever met. Great dudes, great product!
Flo…or anyone else here. just saw this great Mellow deal. posted 7 days ago on reddit. no idea of location
Mellow Board - 2 batteries, buddy board and DB Crossbow decks, regular charger and fast charger, 80 mm wheeels and 2 sets of 90 mm wheels. Extra front trucks as well. 48 miles. I’ve had trouble with this board overheating on me going up extended hills. $400 OBO
Only way is to check it by opening up the battery pack…
@revel_flo I love the set of 74A wheels provided with the kit. These are very comfy for 90mm dias and super grippy. Any way to get some more or those wheels for backups or other decks? If they came in 100mm dia it would totally revel in esk8 love.
the 74A 90mm Revel wheels are SIGNIFICANTLY better than my blue Orangatang Caguamas (which is why I got rid of them). @Jun
ah! I was hoping someone would review the Hyperdrive 100mm wheels, but again the reputation of the TBs exceed everything else when the price is almost matched. I like them purples though…
Yeah I’m a fan of white wheels too. Actually any other color other than the standard black wheels would’ve been cool but looking forward to a more comfortable ride.
I currently have the 90mm boosted clone wheels on but are a China 80a duro and a 62mm contact patch
Had to make a short escape from quarantine. Started with about a little more than half a battery. Stopped with less than one bar and the top speed became limited to about 14mph. I’m about 195lbs. Mostly smooth roads but kind of cold outside.
