Releasing the throttle = speed change = jerk

Hi!

Just started to get used to my first build and I have this question. When I release the throttle button there is a big speed change which results in a jerk almost throwing me from the deck. It feels like breaking with the engines while car driving but with way too high gear.

Is there any way to adjust that? I have VX1 on UART, I was thinking of ramping time or throttle curve but I do not know much about them.

Thanks!

Congrats on completing your first build. There are two things that can be done

  1. You can start learning better throttle control. Don’t ever dump your throttle as no matter what you do, it’ll jerk. Try getting used to easing on and off of it.

  2. If you want an actual change and are using a vesc, go into app config → vesc remote (for uart remotes) and turn your negative ramping time to 0.4. It’ll be smoother when you dump the throttle.

should be the ramp down time, but-

idk man, i could be dead wrong, then i will come up with a save so i don’t look stupid

Thank you, that was quick!
Ad. 1 yeah this is exactly how I started to operate it. Somehow it feels a bit unnatural but if this is the way to go then I will get used to it

Ad. 2 will try to adjust for a start and see if it feels better

There will be time I will brag about my build, but so far it looks like an abomination - it rides but it does not look

Does this mean if you’re at half throttle it will only take .2 seconds to ramp down, or will it still take the full .4 seconds? It also sounds like it controls brake release too which is interesting to know.

It’ll still take the full 0.4 iirc. I run 0.5 pos/0.3 neg ramping

Negative ramp time is how long it takes for the throttle to reach a new, lower value. Lower as in closer to zero, it affects how long your brakes hit for as well, which starts to feel very odd at values above 4.0
It also resets when you pass zero, or go from throttle to brake/vice versa. This is important as you can tap the opposite direction to negate the negative ramping and return to center quickly.

Right, but in the description it says it’s the amount of time it goes from full output to zero, so if you were at half output, would it still take the same amount of time or only take half the time?

In my experience the full time regardless of how much throttle it is. I run 0.2+ 3.5-. Feels like free roll without having any. I’ve tried running 20.0- and it actually only does about 8s at most. Not sure what the software limit is but it’s not 20s.

Also, any new input overriding ramping time is very important. While my board will “free roll” for about 4-5 seconds, I can stop on a dime by tapping brakes, or tap throttle for what feels like a kick push. If you couldn’t do this “throttle cancelling” it’d be near useless to run high neg ramp. I think of it entirely as a free roll setting, but it’s also useful for smoothing shit out or putting a newb on your board.

This.

And this.

Free roll feeling is what I want to achieve. Definitely want to smooth the shit out. And I’m newbie. Hence, the neg ramp adjusting playtime ahead of me.

Thank you!

no, it’s a proto

:eyes::flushed::face_with_peeking_eye:

don’t look at how i ride

Binary thumb control

i totally use a latching seitch to control my throttle 🫣🤪

I can’t set ramp time via VESC Tool mobile app or am I blind?
Went for a quick joyride hoping to verify your tips and end up disappointed :frowning:
(disappointed with the settings, joyride was fun! )

try freesk8 app

Vesctool is weird and I totally rerun the input setup any time I need to change anything at all. I preferred the last version, was easier to find what I needed.
