After about a week and a half of waiting on my radium B-grade thane 330mm belts, they finally arrived. I put them on my BN idler setup with 40t BN pulleys and 105 dad bods. I have a fairly compact setup so occasionally, the belt rubs against the wheel. It’s never created problems on rubber belts but rubbing quickly exposed the steel core of the urathane belts. The steel wire inside then snapped and wound itself around my motor pulley, bucking me off. It’s partially my fault, but it’s kind of upsetting that the urethane was able to be worn down so quickly to expose the steel core.
Here’s me peeling out the steel like string cheese
Did they skip without the idlers?
I’ve got almost exactly the same setup (BN idler mounts, 330mm belts, 40T wheel pulley) I just haven’t switched over to the urethane belts yet. I have some, but haven’t switched. I also already have rubbing on my rubber belts, looking forward to this mess
I experienced this same failure mode on the b-grade belts, but thankfully caught it before the steel band wrapped around anything.
I didn’t realize it was all one band so I pulled on it lol
Yes
Stay safe🫡. I stacked my wheel on a bunch of speed rings and I think it’s good not.
@Tony_Stark i understand that these r B-grade but I don’t think they’re safe to sell if they break this easy. I think the softher urethane makes them wear from friction. Could be bad for people with belt covers or idlers
@Tony_Stark Yeah so these belts are total shit and you should stop selling them before you kill somebody! This shit just made me eat shit doing 45 downhill while it broke my motor shaft!!! And it broke a bunch of other shit including my heart! I’m very angry and upset and you seriously should not sell them, you should take them off your e-shelf right now
Oh and I don’t have b grade. I have a grade so what’s up?
Fuck yo belts!!
Dang that’s rly upsetting. I seems the belts only work well with specific setups. I’m sticking to rubber belts from now on
Yeah, and I’m not running an idler pulley either… So I think it’s really just watch out for radiant belts because they try and kill you
It’s really a bummer bc I had high hopes for the claims they made. I hope they can fix the issues and release a working product.
Can not fix this!
Steel cords will do this again!!
I want to believe it’s fixable . These belts were so smooth when I first put them on
Only if the change the core… In the meantime, this shit is a liability
To add more context: it seems that one of the steel wires delaminated from the belt and wrapped around the axle, causing the wheel to bind up. It bound up so hard that it snapped the motor shaft. I can not see how standard kevlar-reinforced belts could have done this. Kevlar threads would have just snapped.
I think the problem is in the urathane. U see riders like Dylan Bell pushing the limits of eskate on the Mach 1 with these belts. Problems is the that these belts a too specific to the Mach 1, that being perfectly machined components that create almost no friction with the belts and the drive train. These belts are very strong, but have almost no abrasion resistance, leading to the what happend with u and me. You mentioned that you were going 45 mph, which undoubtedly put stress on the drivetrain and belts. If they switch to a material that has higher abrasion resistance, while maintaining the steel core, I think it work and give more room for error with the setup it’s on.
