Damn bro, glad you’re safe, really sad to hear that happened to you
Honestly bro this is a stupid take and I reject it. Fuck these belts
I respect ur take🫡
That is scary - hope you’re all good
Is that the end of the steel wire poking through the urethane there?
Let him cook
I sure am looking forward to my Boardnamics gear drives arriving.
Chris, I’m so sorry this happened to you… We had no idea that this was a possible failure mode of our belts and I’m glad you are ok!
While we are trying to push the industry forward with new advancements, sometimes despite our best efforts to test things thoroughly and scale up cautiously, it’s not until products are used on a wide variety of setups that issues present themselves.
The belts that failed on you were in fact produced 10A softer than normal which I discovered after some complaints of poor performance and teeth shredding off. To existing customers who bought these belts we offered free replacements for the new HT version where we used a different pigment to guarantee a high hardness on every batch and were still in the process of confirming performance of those and scaling up slowly. In the meantime instead of throwing a heap of brand new belts in the bin we offered the soft belts as B grade with reduced performance and a clearance price as Mach One owners were still getting good life out of them and we had no idea there was such a dangerous failure mode.
Given that there are a wide variation of belt drive setups out there and that we aren’t sure we could re-create the conditions for this failure mode in order to ensure the new HT version can’t have this problem, we have decided to discontinue the Radium Thane belts for the DIY market and all existing customers have been emailed with a safety warning to stop using them and that a refund is available for those who reply with their order number.
For Mach One customers extensive testing has been done with our drivetrain and Mach One owners will still be able to buy the HT Thane belts for their boards.
We are also going to pay for a replacement motor on your Dadbod @Yeahthatperson as it was our belt that broke it and its the least we could do considering what happened to you.
I appreciate the concern and feedback. Safety is our #1 priority and to push the industry forward we need to increase the safety of eboards as much as we can. Hence our decision to discontinue the Thane belts.
Thanks for showing how to react professionally to a case like this.
Most sellers here just hide from the thread and keep selling their stuff.
Props to you Tony
Man, thats unfortunate that theyre being discontinued. Are there any plans to revise them after further testing for a re-release?
Id be happy to test a version with kevlar
Also, I will not be asking for a refund.
First off, my heart is mended
To every company out there: This is the best, most professional response a company could make. Liam DM’d me immediately to set up a call. He also, without acting in preservation of profits, immediately pulled the belts and basically recalled them. I think that really speaks to his character. He has offered to cover my motor replacement and refund the cost of my belts.
Thank you @Tony_Stark for handling this properly.
It sucked, it was scary, it hurt, and I was upset… I’m an emotional little unicorn and was deffo angry and salty AF in my post because I was hurting and thought my board was out of commission for Carve. So apologies for the salt, and the biggest thank you to @BenjaminF @poastoast @jack.luis (hope I didn’t miss anyone) for figuring out the VAPORWAREed Gotchi Pro to reprogram me to keep riding, and thank you to the entire Carve group for being supportive and pacient while I got my shit together. Another BIG thank you again to @BenjaminF for the late night repair and motor replacement that had ya up to 3am.
Also, I’m super happy with the motor being covered. Do not really care about the belts…
It’s not Carve unless I stay up till 3am fixing someone’s board. I guess this year was Carve² because I fixed Joseph’s board too
and one of the socal rider’s glasses. I’m just a regular handyman up in this bitch. I should start charging
We really appreciate the professionalism, great customer service, and commitment to safety. This one failure doesn’t create doubt within me and many others that you and Radium are capable of making great innovative products. I’m looking forward to safely test the HT version of the belts!
