Radium Performance

Started looking into the VESC tool, it has so much in it. Realized after reviewing specs on 245kv motor , specs on DV6S ESC and the specs on the battery pack, just how much headroom is in the motor amps from my current setting. Now I dialed it up to have more take-off torque and keeping an eye on temperature. Dramatic shift in bottom end torque. So many adjustments, one change at a time, fun fun.

Absolutely no offence intended but this is exactly why vesc is NOT a consumer grade product. I think Radium have done the right thing moving away from it.

No offense taken, Totally agree with you. It is awesome that Radium kept conservative in not recommending for me to take the parameters to the edge of a cliff despite the outright capability of their motors, ESC, and Battery design. Even with an electrical/ electronic background spanning over three decades across multiple industrial disciplines, I question my own actions even after studying the setups, absolute limit specs, and nominal specs. I don’t want to take it into that ”risky” territory.

Once they proliferate their product to a massive level, I am hoping they will have the time to engineer an over the top racing machine with tons of safety margin whilst possessing orders of magnitude performance beyond anything out there. Something requiring and airbag leather suit, neck brace, and an ECE helmet to ride … while looking as svelte as a full fat Range Rover

Hell yeah, custom grip is about the only thing i’ll do to the m1s.

And a parallel battery port

I think it’s a shame there isn’t more feedback regarding the use of the RTS and the tweaking of settings. It’s a “game changer” everywhere on YouTube, but in reality, nobody seems to care much. IMHO, all the work behind it deserves better than just hype. The fact that the system was abandoned for the Mach One S certainly won’t help matters… And if it was so good, then why doesn’t anyone seem to regret its disappearance? What a tragedy, all these mysteries that will forever remain unsolved.

This whole time with the new motors I’ve been running sensorless without knowing it. I wondered why the stumbling on deadstop takeoff. Now I turned them on and saved the reading in settings and it start like butter:smirking_face::hugs:. Hall is your friend, and it works. Got the wife to hop on this tonight ( no skateboard experience at all) it’s so smooth.

Liam thanks for tactfully:face_with_hand_over_mouth::face_with_hand_over_mouth:getting me to upskill into motor controls. I just have to keep curiosity from killing me :hugs:. I got this dialed up to the 100motor amps per. Now it is near that advertised HP with headroom left on the esc and the battery. I just have to watch the temps.

Vesc tool. Proceed cautiously. Great till it’s not.

I think RTS in defaulted setting offers a great riding experience. I have mine left on and original settings. The S achieves nimbleness with revised front track width, I think. Both have its place and price points. I like the bells and whistles as the learning keeps me from getting bored and prevents de-evolving the mind. Radium performance Mach 1 hit my needs for turnkey, which I desperately needed to get started enjoying the hobby, and it also provided me limitless growth opportunity into the eskate world. Without this refined turnkey solution, I would not have had the motivation or time to get into it. Reason for getting two was to guarantee having it to ride anytime and riding with someone when opportunity is there. As refined as these are, the backup remains sitting pristinely maintained and unused haha. I know there are others who have multiples as well, they may have their own reasons for doing so. Investing in the cause for sure as there’s nothing better, no team more capable of this level of eskate refinement IMO

Yup I ain’t touching but one thing at a time and the theory for some of the myriad parameters is working my calculus brain of late.

Night ride with them 245kv motors after taking the current parameters to the website recommended figures for race motor amps, temp, etc, and I have a glimpse now of the potential of the board as a whole. It devours long inclines and accelerates with virtually no limits, :hugs: at any speed  I saw 74C temp for the first time on readout, hehe.

I’ve never ridden a Mach 1 so I don’t know much about how it feels but it seems (hunch here could be completely wrong) like it would be most advantageous to have on track compared to casual riding. But then the Mach 1 hasn’t really been adopted by many racers as it wasn’t developed to be a race board among other things.

So you’ve got this race tech in a non race setup. Can anyone that rides one casually say if they love RTS and miss it when on boards without it?

I’d really like to try it someday.

The mach is my only board and casual riding is the only mischief i get up to these days.

i’m looking forward to the mach1s arriving so that i can compare the two boards and i’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little worried that the mach1s might be a slight disappointment without the RTS.

i haven’t switched RTS off since I first dialled in my preferred settings and i REALLY enjoy riding with the RTS on.

I’ll pop out for a spin in a little bit and turn it off. It’ll be interesting to see how it feels after so long with it on. I’ve been riding a bit more than usual lately, so it should be a good a time as any to experiment.

Yeah so RTS is definitely a winner. Board still rides fine without it but its just so much snappier and alive with it on.

it’s not an enormous difference, but it’s the difference between the board working with you and the board just doing what you tell it to. It’s like the board is on your vibe and makes it just that little bit easier/more enjoyable with RTS on.

I think its fair to say that I will miss RTS on the mach1s. Hopefully it makes up for it in other ways!

This is a quote from Liam in radium telegram group few days ago. Maybe it will cheer you up

“ Speaking of. Was with the JK ESC engineer yesterday seeing what needs to be done to make RTS work with their ESCs. It’s definitely doable, mostly just software changes which is awesome news. “

“ Essentially the ESC feeds the remote data out to the RTS module and then RTS sends back two motor control values, all via the one UART port. Radium app will function as normal and we’ll be able to add RTS functions to the remote menu as well.”

So it looks like RTS could be retrofited to the m1s in the future. Or at least I am reading it that way

I was definitely hopeful this may be the case, excited to hear it’s potentially viable!

I still have yet to try this, I’ve been kinda skimming through the comments on it over the years and it seems like you specifically love the system. Or there are more than a few people that swear by it so it seems.

Definitely makes me curious abt it. Chances to ride one are slim to none here in the states I don’t know anyone that has one anyway
