RaceBoi: Tito Duality, Tomiboi Hellhound, 21S4P, 4WD 6395+6385, laser cut gears, D100S (formerly RaceBro)

I’ve decided to give the steel chassis it’s own build thread so it’s not burried below 600 posts.

Did a little modelling on it since I last posted about it, gotta figure out FEA and hopefully some ways to save weight too. I’m hoping to be ready to order it by the time when I first get to ride the kart wheels on RaceBoi, when the aluminium wheel hubs arrive.

I’ve also made some medium-longer term plans for electronics upgrades, as I will for sure want more power when I have more weight and sticky tires.

Sunday I had a T-race session on the hard compound Supernovas. Did a 12.83 toeside lap, with multiple 12.xx laps.

Also set a new top speed of 59 km/h / 36.5 mph

I am impressed with the hard supernovas, they definitely feel better than the linns, while retaining an aggressive feel (but more predictably).

Grip is better, and on the edge when hot you can sort of feel them vibrating a bit, lightly skipping sort of. Which gives you feedback that the end of grip is very close. Compared to the linns that just randomly go. I do recommend mounting them in a reasonably balanced way (soapy water!).

When they do slide, then the sliding characteristics feel aggressive sort of like the linns, but I find myself more precise with stopping the slide at the right moment with these. Also, I had laps where I was sliding every corner and still was very quick - meaning on these a slide is not necessarily a huge mistake in a tight corner. That stands for the linns as well, but only until you are 100% in control, which let’s face with the linns most people aren’t, especially not 100% of the time.

Then Tuesday the new hubs arrived that I talked about in the project endgame build thread, check out if you haven’t yet. Since then most of my esk8 related work went into that.

This board is getting Theseus’d into that new build, so updates will mostly be continuing in that thread.

Sidewall stiffness and overall construction is a big leap forward.
When the M-boards crew get the duro and compound options dialed, the Supernova will be a great option for dialing in top level competition. Pretty dang stoked on the potential this tire is showing.

Yeah, I am very excited for the potential Supernovas are showing, and I’m sure the soft compound version is even grippier!

I just wish there would be something that’s maybe about halfway inbetween Supernovas and kart tires in size, with top level performance compounds. Maybe about 8-8.5" diameter. I really prefer a wheel bigger than 6", but the 10" of the kart wheels I’m experimenting with is such a huge step up. Requires completely redesigning everything to fit them and they eat up significantly more power.
