Figured I clear things up. Here are the small wheels, about 82mm. Sorry I don’t know how many dimes or thumb widths that is.

My hole is WaF today, and with wires sticking out my hand beneath a cast u can’t risk going out and slipping in it.

No one from the USA( me) will blame you for boycotting insanity ( no one sane) shun this absolute nazi bullshit . The sensible American citizen is deeply embarrassed and ashamed of our behavior on the world stage. You all have my personal apologies, though I’m very much against racist, bullshit nationalism, AND ESPECIALLY the idea that some how white people ( I thought my name was honkey till I was 11)have any room to preach to anyone. We are all human and to hell with anyone who thinks that they are superior to anyone. If you have class or are an American man ( not a patriot, I love my country but I acknowledge it’s flaws)you are against this nonsense

If you catch all the magic smoke and cram it back into that hole, it should work again. But you have to get all of it.

Ok, so I will not use the word Hero , though others may( though some called me less charitable names). No one except the bird the egg and the environmental officer are happy that I saw this nesting bird. But with any luck, the little chick will grow up and peck my side mirror on my car and crap all over it.

Edit egg and bird are safe!

Not sure where to ask, but what tool brand do I go with?

The Makita cordless drill that we’ve had since I was 6 has packed in. I know nothing about different tool brands and I know a lot of you know a lot. We have a makita impact driver and we might get cordless angle grinders and others in future so it would be good if batteries are compatible.
I’m also thinking about putting some molicels in the battery case and strapping a VESC onto the side.

I know options probably depend on my preferences but if I can get some wisdom on either brand choice or modding it would be appreciated.

I think Makita is putting more effort into their 40v tool lineup recently and the 18v stuff is just riding along. The other brands are at least offering 18/20v packs with tabless cells.

I went with Ridgid after my black and white Makita drill and driver Batteries became worthless.

I was unaware of battery adapters and this was pre esk8 for me.

I like that Ridgid batteries have the low voltage disconnect in the battery, not the tool like Makita 18v and some others.

I have used my Ridgid batteries and a voltage booster as a portable Esk8 charger, and Ridgid/Home despot often has pretty good deals on ridgid batteries. I have not used the ā€˜lifetime service agreement’ /Warranty, but I hear it is not a huge process. Gotta register the tool within 90 days for that LSA to be in effect.

My Ridgid drill and driver are just basic brushed versions, but I have their brushless angle grinder, and really like it. Wish it had a speed controller though.

Thanks all.

I think there will be some Dewalt cordless equipment being thrown out in 8 months so I’ll put an on/off switch in the makita until then and mostly use the corded one.

And in 8 months I’ll try machine the parts to put a 5065 or similar into it with a single VESC 6 and a 12S 1.1Ah 100C LiPo.

I’ll vote for Milwaukee.

But mostly I’d vote against Makita. Once, a long time ago, I bought one and the day I unpacked it I stripped out the gearbox. Turns out the gears were plastic.

Last Makita I ever bought. And that was probably 20 years ago. Maybe they got better, maybe they didn’t, but it doesn’t matter to me.

Milwaukee make good average tools.

Dewalt make great tools.

I can’t really complain about my milwaukee tools, they all do what they’re supposed to and they are pretty tough.

But our maintenance team uses dewalt and every time i use their tools i’m impressed by how much more power they have.

Milwaukee tools seem quite vanilla. Its all just straight 18v stuff that does the job. Dewalt have ventured into the flexvolt batteries and tools that use higher voltages and the power difference is significant.

I don’t need to rekit right now, but when it comes time i’ll definitely be jumping ship. Milwaukee have done the job for me but they’ve never been impressive.

I also vote against Makita. Makita have been trash tools for a very long time now.
