Noob question thread! 2020_Summer

it looks like you still got space with the trucks

are yoy running the deck as dropthrough?

Yeah I’m doing dropthrough. Even if I don’t the motors interfere with the trucks if I aim the motor hangers up by one notch.

It’s literally 15.5 mm.
I really wanna skate today so I’m gonna risk it and hope I don’t regret it.
Going forward I gotta figure something out.

@Boardnamics do these motor hangers come in a longer version? If they were an inch longer they’d clear the truck.

Maybe put griptape on the motor cans and sand away the deck where it’s in the way. IDK

Not sure how bad the clearance problem was.

Hmm, not an inch longer. The 270s are quite a bit bigger.

For reverse mounting I typically recommend my longer mounts so this isn’t an issue. The short ones you have are intended for front mounting.

I think you go to the site and it offers, no?

I got it! I shimmed out the wheels to the limit with speed washers to move the motors apart and switched to non-dropthrough and I was just barely able to aim the mounts up one notch. Got 34mm of clearance for the motors to the ground now. It really could not be closer between the motors and trucks.

I think your idea of wrapping the motors in grip tape and sanding down the board with them will allow me to switch back to dropthrough as well. I like my board to be real low. That project is for tomorrow.

Does this connector on the Xenith get controlled by the e-switch or is it directly connected to the battery connector? is there a way to connect accessories to the xenith so that they are turned on by the e-switch?

Sorry to be a buzzkill but I think the trucks are likely to clip the motors when riding. Hitting bumps or vibrations can momentarily push the two much closer together than the normal “max” turning angle. I thought I had enough clearance to avoid wheel bite on an old setup but I hit a little bump going around a corner and got thrown straight off because the wheels hit the deck.

I could be wrong though, someone else correct if I’ve missed something

You can stick griptape on the wheels, remove the roadside bushing, and sand wheelwells into the deck a bit to fix small clearance problems.

Oh yeah that makes sense thanks! I got a riser and am going to get wider trucks but I’ll try that in the mean time

this port is controlled by the switch yes, but u shouldn’t use it as accessories port, as u can’t draw enough amps to power whatever u need before it pops. its mainly just for battery % indicator type of things

I was intending to power a BKB gps tracker from it. I’m pretty sure it draws less than 150ma

not sure what’s the amp draw on those, but the port doesn’t work if the esc is off iirc, u might want a better solution

What counts as ‘1 cycle’ on a battery pack? One full charge then to full discharge?

Yeah I think there’s some common sense that should go with it (charging to 98% and discharging to 5% still counts even though it’s not a “full” charge). My rule of thumb would be 1 cycle is 1 charge and discharge at the rate it is intended to be used for its life. For example if you personally plan to always use a conservative cutoff for li ion or only charge your packs to 80% because you’ve got a big one and want to extend its life then a cycle is complete at that point. Goes especially if you have weird cells like hi voltage lipos that have different voltage windows, or if you’re using a type of 18650 that only guarantees a 500 cycle life with discharge down to 3.2 or whatever
