Noob question thread! 2020_Summer

Who do i need to annoy on this site to get a fancy title?

@longhairedboy @jamie

Since the Great Mod Cull of 2020, there has not really been anyone who has been invested in changing or creating new titles. I think that @xsynatic would be great at it, but he doesnt have the power to do so.

Its pretty sad because the titles were one of the many reasons why I got pulled into this community so quickly. It was fun keeping up with who’s who, and finding out who said what to earn them their title. I think its an incentive for new users to want to jump in and get involved in this community, so they can earn a title and make a name for themselves.

Damon, when does @xsynatic’s training wheels come off so he can change titles and whatnot?

Lol yeah I agree

I’m not sure what the backend permission is of giving titles

It probably has something to do with being able to change peoples ranks or something, like actual discourse trust levels

Aight listen up all of you. For every day that i do not have a custom title, a random picture from r/glorp will be sent into each one of your inboxes. Love you all

We need more mods in general, just look at what happened with the little foccer launch

It’s not an easy job to step up to, as we’ve seen

The community has been pretty good self-policing as of late though, last I heard Damon intended to leave as is for now

Some have had their titles savagely thrust upon them, violating our sovereignty, dignity, and our free will to avail ourselves of the deity-given right to self-determination of our own title! :pensive:

What is a healthy discharge rate for a battery in storage? I have a 10s4p Samsung 30q that reduces 0.1V in 2 o 3 days when fully charged. Is that OK?

It depends on the temperature but a battery that has been allowed to sit at least a 4-5 hours after being used or charged before having its voltage measured should only drop at the most a few millivolts over a couple of days.

This is assuming there are no damaged cells and no BMS or electronics slowly draining the pack. If any of those things are present then the pack can drop at a wide range of rates.

Anything connected to your pack?

While I appreciate the @, I am no longer a mod and therefore do not have the power to change titles. Jamie is the only mod, I’m sure he’d be happy to help when he sees your posts.

My recommendation is that your title be r/glorp.

Luv you 2 :kissing_heart:

Aw.
It’s getting increasingly harder to explain my profile to an outsider. I regret nothing

Am i not enough for you?

Well technically I’m still not a mod lol

Just a voltmeter. It is connected but the display is off.

Take it off. It might have no effect at all but it’s best to test the pack’s voltage drop with nothing connected unless you know the standby current draw of the meter.

At the risk of being completely tone deaf to any sarcasm here, users are allowed to change their own titles to either nothing or their discourse rank. This can be accessed in your profile settings.

(This is also for anyone who is dissatisfied with their title)

Oh, yea…sure…go and bring facts into this. Fine.
Screw you guys, I’m going home!

All joking aside, thanks for that info! I was just having a little fun with my previous post.

Hello everyone! I was hoping I could ask you experts some advice on my first DIY eskate. I’m having some trouble figuring out the best battery and motor configuration that I would need. At the moment my plan is to build a board that will “perform better” than my stock Evolve GTR bamboo board. What I mean by “perform better” is mainly having improved torque to get up steeper hills and a having a slightly better range and a slightly better overall top speed. Definitely torque is my biggest goal. My goal is not to build a rocket. I dont need to go faster than 45-50km/h, but to have that speed as my top speed would be desirable. My initial thought was to purchase a 36V 26Ah LG 10SP8 18650 battery pack and two flipsky 6374 190KV 3500W motors with a FOC Box unity VESC. Most likely I would be using 107mm wheels with a 38 or 40T gear. Btw I weight about 180lb. I have also been told by a vendor to consider buying from them a 12S4P Molicel P42A 21700 battery pack. Is that battery way more than I’d need? Would my initial thoughts for a setup be more than enough to outperform my evolve GTR? Im hopping to get the perspective and expertise from some experienced DIY builders! Thanks so much in advance. This is my first post…I hope I am posting in the correct thread. I apologize if I did not.

12s4p P42A Molicells are the best you can get, along with samsung 40Ts, especially in power and range. Change the Focbox to either Maker X DV6 or Stormcore 60D and you got yourself a monster greater than the evolve. Everything else is up to you. 6374 (low KV) motors are great for torque as well so you’re golden. Also, increase the pulley teeth so that you don’t get a very speedy board. The lower the teeth, the faster you’re going.

Also, welcome to the forums.

Thank you sir!

How would the 36V 26A LG 10SP8 perform compared to the evolve? Would it not be a noticeable difference?

Are the VESCs that you list as user friendly to set up and use as the focbox? Why do you prefer them?

Any battery compared to the evolves will be different, especially in the performance part… If I recall, they’re using Samsung 35E batteries and they’re not that great. You can tell by the voltage sag. That battery will work better than evolve’s. However, P42A is the best standards and recommended.

The escs I listed uses vedder’s vesc tool (stormcore has its own app if I remember…), so if you are able to use that, you should be okay. However, for the stormcore, I believe it’s the same guy who made the focbox, so there should be an app for it as well… Someone who owns it should tell you since I don’t have that. I own the DV6 and the only thing you have to do is install the bootloader and then update it.

Everything else is pretty much simple in set up.

As to why I say to use those is because if your focbox breaks, there’s no way to fix it.
