Noob question thread! 2020_Summer

is there an issue fusing the end of the charger cable but on the actual charger rather then inside the enclosure
it just means its easier to change a fuse for me

Hey guys, a friend of mine tries to convince me that 30Q cells in 10s6p configuration isn’t enough for 2x 6374 motors and 2 single focboxes. He tells me that VTC5A will be a waay better. But I don’t think I will use their (vtc5a) potential and therefore they are more expensive.

What do you think. Do you have any experiences with smiliar setup?

10s6p 30q is fine
it can draw 120amps and that will pull 6374 motors perfectly
had a similiar setup with 12s6p 30q and worked perfect really nice and torquey

To drive the motors to their full capacity? No.
To drive you on those motors in a strong enough manner that you can barely hold on to your board? Absolutely yes.
Anything over 100A battery discharge you will not feel unless you are doing 40mph runs and need to push it to 50 easily.
30q cells in 6p config are just right. Vtc5a will trade capacity for a few more amps. You can already climb walls, do you want to drag cars after you as well?

@b264 maybe you know?

You want to avoid fires on your board in general. Your charger is already fused at the plug and mainboard in your house. If anything metal hits your charge port in the wrong way it’s fucked, and it may burn wires inside as well which start the next “esk8 fire” viral video

just finished an xt60 extender for my charge port and realised i forgot the fuse
looks like im gonna have to resolder it

its just an ordinary mtb. I definetly care more about range than a few % of power there.

Thanks for advice.

I’ve been using a 10s4p 30q pack on my mtb for…1 1/2 years now  I get 17-20km on a charge

Where do I get the latest version of vesc tool? I got one from the play store a while back, but the unity says the vesc tool is old. I do not know how to update it.

If you ever want bigger power just get p42a’s, they’re the golden ratio between discharge and capacity. Don’t mess around with vtc5 cells that usually go into power drill packs (just discharge power) and definetly don’t get capacity cells like 50E unless you build something in 12s10p or more

The vesc tool or the firmware?
The play store version is the latest, and same as the one you find on the official vesc tool website. You may have the unity firmware on it while you try to connect with vesc tool or i don’t know

Ya I guess I mean the firmware.

Does it connect? What’s the error message?

The connected vesc has newer firmware than this version of vesc tool supports

I have no idea how to update the firmware on vesc tool

I tried deleting and then re loaded vesc tool from play store. No joy. Same error message. What do I do? I want to check out the duty cycle thing but can’t.

The best place for the fuse is inside the enclosure on the back of the charge port. It shouldn’t be blowing, and you shouldn’t need to change it.

Then you be setting your “battery max” at lot lower anyway. If you set it to 20A per side, your range will go up a lot and your battery will last longer. Still keep “motor max” really high though

Charge fuse should not blow… If it does theres either a problem with your charger or the way you hooked it up.
