No, it would reduce the maximum possible duty cycle. When you run the App Setup Wizard in the VESC Tool, you are essentially mapping the PWM signal from the remote to the duty cycle range of your ESC. The Puck limits the PWM signal range that it outputs, and therefore your duty cycle range is limited by an equivalent amount. This means you will have less power, but also less top speed.
It’s a simple, (if somewhat inelegant) solution to speed modes on a PWM remote, and can have some unintended risks/consequences:
First, if you run the App Setup Wizard with the remote in a lower speed mode, and then you ever try to run your board with it in max speed mode, then you will be sending a higher PWM value to the VESC than it expects to see, which can cause bad things. Always run App Setup with the remote in speed mode 3 (maximum).
Second, if you are riding in speed mode 1, the limited duty cycle may not be enough to give you proper start-up torque. @Leon had this exact problem:
So just be aware of those things, and you should be fine. Personally, I prefer to keep my puck in speed mode 3 all the time and just limit my duty cycle with my thumb ![]()

I don’t think that limits duty cycle. You can reach full duty cycle on a limited PWM signal, for example, upside down on the bench.
Yes, solder the ESC+ and ESC- wires from two ESCs together. If they’re soldered together, they can never be disconnected while CANBUS is connected ![]()
