Noob question thread! 2020_Summer

Need immediate help. Charger is only detecting 5series on every 6s pack I have

Version 6 has three shunts and version 4 has two. Version 6 also can have an IMU but it’s not always present in all designs; the VESC brand hardware is your best bet for that.

Check to see if your charging cables have disconnections. Try a different charging cable. Maybe one of the balance pins on your connector slipped out? What’s the voltage on your battery pack?

Noob with a Stormcore here. Does anyone know of a good wired thumb/twist throttle for it? I’m not sure of how to connect a wired throttle to it, but I have connected a servo remote controller throttle to it. If anyone could help, that would be very helpful.

I’m a little confused, are you looking for a remote?

I have tested the stormcore with a remote, but I am looking for a thumb or twist throttle that works well with the stormcore. Sorry for the confusion.

no worries

mmm i can’t help you here but hopefully someone else has knowledge on this? You’re looking for something like a throttle on an ebike right?

Yes, something of that sort. It will be used on an electric scooter.

I believe its just a matter of getting yourself a good quality adc throttle

How hot is too hot for batteries? My enclosure where the battery is was borderline too hot to touch after my ride today.
Additional info, it’s a 12s6p of Sanyo 20700b and it was about 80-85°F outside

mmm since you don’t have the exact temp im not sure how much this will help but:

So I’m into the vesc tool for the first time ever to hook up my puck to a BKB duel kit.
It made me update fw to be able to run remote config. It put me on fw 5.1, is that ok for the fsesc 4.20?
How do these setting look?
Motor Currant max=45a
Motor Currant max brake=40a
Absolute max current=100a
Battery Current Max=60a(10s3p 30q)
Battery current Max regen=35a
Running in foc
Tried to get smart reverse going while in remote set up, but it seems it did not take.
Didnt change anything else.

Yes.

Absolute Max Current should be at least 150A

Battery Current Max: How many motors do you have? If 2, then reduce this by half

On a side note, while you CAN run the 30Q at 20A, you will have more range and pack lifetime if you only run them at 10A or 15A per p-group.

Change motor current max brake to negative number.

Battery Max Regen is going to buck you right off the front, Superman-style. For single motor, try -20A. For dual motor, try -12A and -12A. Do NOT put positive numbers here.

Also, in the Motor_Settings>General>Advanced tab, set “Fault Stop Time” to 75ms and “Duty Cycle Current Limit Start” to 85%

If dual drive, don’t forget to update firmware and settings for both ESCs.

If using CANBUS, the box in the bottom-left. Otherwise, connect to each ESC independantly.

It is duel motors

My bad, had -35

My bad again, had -40a

What do these mean? Sorry, trying to understand and not just plug in numbers.
Thank you for the help!

Don’t forger to limit VESC 4 ERPM 60k

@Darkie02 Is that in the same area motor/general/advanced settings?
Sorry, had to take a break from the comp, spent way too long, and thought I bricked it at one point. :beers:
Also, I should not reach that erpm being 10s right?

It’s Motor_Settings>General>RPM>Max_ERPM

VESC 4 had issues of damaging it self over 60k depending on the brand I think VESCX/FOCBOX could take 80k ish

I wouldn’t worry about it right now, but I think these should default to those values. I hate the defaults here. This is the advanced tab, I’d just change those two and then not mess with anything else there.

And if “Duty Cycle Current Limit Start” is greater than “Maximum Duty Cycle” then it can lock at max speed, which is supremely dangerous. Do not change “Maximum Duty Cycle”, that stays at 95%

Fault stop time is the length of the brake/throttle cutout if a fault occurs. Higher is better for the hardware, lower is better for the human. For the FSESC 4.20 I would do 75ms. The 500ms default here is just downright dangerous in my opinion experience.
