Noob question thread! 2020_Summer

In all fairness, 5.5x2.1 barrel jacks get rather warm at 4A but their convenience beg extra investigations into what’s possible with them.

Maybe a lineup of ceramic ones is in order.

I’m testing a few other ones as well and I think some custom skates take them over those limits.

You cannot get the female part (board side) of those anywhere. I’m already all over that.

You can only find the male ends (charger side) on AliExpress as far as I’ve found.

IF YOU FIND THEM, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP

Plus those connectors break REALLY easily, like way more easily then 5.5x2.1 barrel connectors

in all honesty, charging my boards is the most trepidation I experience in esk8s…

crappy chargers, crappy electronics, crappy users…

I’m so glad I read one of your threads about fusing charge ports way back in noobdom

even my first board had a fused charge port… and since that day I’ve only popped one fuse… and that was user error… but much thanks for your wisdom and experience!

They are 8.00mm x 5.55mm x 1.75mm barrel plugs

@b264. I’m lost. In terms of vs a normal barrel which we name as 5.5 x 2.1

What sizing is it? They would be 5.5 x 1.75? Doesn’t seem logical to me as they’re bigger

The OD of the outer wall measures 8.00mm
The ID of the outer wall measures 5.55mm
The OD of the inside pin measures 1.75mm

These plugs can be found, but the jack that this plugs into I have never located
