Noob question thread! 2020_Summer

Interesting… Stormcore is really on par with Trampa? There seem to be more of a cult following around xenith or ubox on this site. Ubox $350 Stormcore $320 Xenith $280 Makerx $265
Not a huge price difference. Can I ask… which would you choose? My priority is durability because I don’t have any extreme performance needs or bells and whistles type of things like a 5v light input. thanks again

MakerX and a loopkey :ok_hand:

Just wrap the motor cans with grip tape. The problem will eventually disappear. Literally

Don’t try to solder on the board, use hot glue or something to keep the broken USB port from moving around.

Use the CAN to set it up from another working controller.

its not a deck problem anymore, its the baseplate being in the way

The griptape will also take care of the baseplate

Of course, I appreciate the compliment, always try my best.

Well - for me, it’s been pretty much 9/10. However, I will say that some people have not had the greatest customer service experience at times.

I will continue to buy from them for sure, they’re my go-to. Affordable, reliable (in my experience) and reasonably fast shipping times.

Haven’t used either personally but this is what I hear, I think Trampa probably still edges them out

I’d still go MakerX because I value the cost side of things more. If money was not to be considered I’d probably go Ubox, even knowing they have some issues because I’m interested in trying HV stuff

For durability I’d probably suggest either MakerX or Stormcore, but I’ve never used Stormcore. No real issues for me with MakerX stuff, and it does very well with heat performance

+1

Hey guys,

I came across an interesting idea on how to upgrade wheels to have bigger / softer.
It’s cheap to buy silicone pipes that could be used as wheel sleeves. They are originally made for car tuning. Come with different sizes and colours. Below examples

BOOST Straight Turbo Intercooler Pipe 3 Ply Silicone Transition Coupler Hose Rrducer 38mm 45mm 51mm 57mm 60mm 63mm 65mm to 90mm|Hoses & Clamps| - AliExpress - 90mm internal x 76mm costs 8 usd.
3 Ply 0 Degree Straight Silicone Hose Intercooler Turbo Intake Pipe Coupler Hose For BMW 32 38 51 60 63 70 76 80 83 102 127mm|Hoses & Clamps| - AliExpress

Do you think that could work?

It’s an interesting idea

Looks like some redneck stuff

I have a question out of curiosity. If you were to extend the battery wires to an ESC, what’s the longest you feel safest going? Same with the motor phase wires.

I have zero need to extend anything, it’s just a curious question.

Hmm my longest is I guess like 15 inches on my mtb, probably wouldn’t go too much longer than that

Good to know. I’ll keep that in mind for a future build. Thank you!

It’s better to extend the phase wires, rather than the motor wires. The motor wires don’t have anything other than a big ol’ nearly-dead short and inductance across them (the motor windings), whereas the battery wires have much more of a chance of wreaking havoc if they generate voltage spikes.

Makes sense!

I agree with @MysticalDork, extend your motor phase wires instead.

We really have no idea how long we can make our battery wires (to the ESC) because it depends on the battery pack voltage, the voltage rating of the ESC, how the battery wires are run (together or apart), the length of the battery wires, and how much capacitance is on the input of the ESC. All these things affect how close to zapping the ESC we are with the voltage spikes created by the battery wire inductance.

Until we can get some actual voltage spike measurements for a large number of setups we can only take guesses or say what has worked for our particular setups (which will be different from yours).

This answer gives all the detail I was curious about. Y’all are an awesome bunch of people!

This antenna actually works awesome and was cheap. If you’re having any issue with yours, I’d highly recommend trying one of these.

I dont like how flexy my deck is. Feels a bit sketchy, but more importantly, feels like motion isnt as fully translated from my feet to my trucks. Would carbon fiber or fiberglass be a better material for reinforcing it//what are the differences in behavior between the two?
