NEW MOTOR MOUNT DESIGN

@TheRef, we haven’t finalized a price just yet, but will soon

Yes it does eventually happen to aluminum, I’ve seen it on production machines, until now…

Made these pulleys for a machine and hard coat anodized them.
After almost 6 million cycles, not the slightest amount of wear. So, of course you know what I’m thinking

I’ve found that the 3D servisas fatboy hanger is 19.7 by 18.1 square for caliber2 bases. Does anybody know if it is the same profile as their channel and matrix? And if they hold those tolerances fairly close?

Profile is different

Correct me if I’m wrong @3DServisas but both of channel trucks are 22mm square with a 3mm radius

FatBoy320 hangers will have a 20x20mm profile with a 4 mm radius coming soon. Old version is 22x22mm with a 4mm radius.

So…I would like to purpose a few questions… maybe this should have its own thread, not sure, but here it goes…
What are the pros/cons of belt vs gear in eskate (Big Question, I know)

For belt driven systems, what are the pro’s of having a tension bearing, aside from the ease of replacing a belt quickly on the go?

I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions, especially on the gear vs belt
Cheers!!!

BELTS

Pros:

  • cheap overall
  • easy to install and adjust
  • lots of options
  • safe fail mode

Cons:

  • easy to damage (exception is enclosed)
  • high risk of failure (belt snap)
  • wide and long

GEARS

Pros:

  • high torque output
  • very robust
  • slim profile

Cons:

  • expensive
  • more complex to install
  • not idiot proof
  • very limited options
  • helical can cause unsecured cans to jump

It’s unclear whether we like the noise, but in quietest to loudest…belt < herringbone < helical < spur

question, for esk8, why is gear more robust?

Gear drives are usually enclosed which keeps out most of the road debris and water, plus it’s steel on steel rather than repeated stress on a flexible belt

Doesn’t mean you can’t fuck up a GD, but typically you would wear/snap a belt long before the gear teeth fail

should add to the con of gear drive… failure can result in ungraceful supermaning especially when a tooth snaps off

Oh one pro of gear drive they tend to have better free roll

Has anybody had a nazare belt slip?

I feel like some of us, like me, love loud drives because esk8 is legal here, and just like motorcyclists say “loud pipes save lives” I feel like when folks hear you coming they are less likely to walk or drive into your path. Also loud drivetrain sounds cool. Again, legal here.

I feel like other folks like quiet because maybe it’s illegal or in a gray area or for other reasons.

So really, it’s both… folks like quiet AND folks like loud.

@ZachTetra, thanks for the great reply. I’ve not ridden a gear drive yet, but seams to be quite popular now.

I’m in the low profile is better group since I ride crowded areas where it’s not necessary legal
