I’ve had to unfollow the Lacroix FB Page as I could feel myself getting into a pointless spat with people with too much money and smugness.
I’m 100% happy there is a new premium esk8 out there, it looks brilliant and I wish the Lacroix company all the success it will inevitably get, but some of the new owners are intolerable. I guess many of these guys are like the Sunday morning motorcyclists, with their £15000 weekend toy. I get it, completely, there are a lot of older men with a lot of disposable income, and these guys quite rightly look for the most expensive toy on the market, discounting everything else. Ask them how it works or what’s under the hood and you are met with a blank stare, followed by a comment of “don’t know, don’t care… but look at it, ace innit ?”
Even though I might be cutting my nose off to spite my face by not buying one, I can’t bring myself to join this biker club because of this feeling.
If the product is good, I see no problem with it.
Especially since the owners are not assholes.
Trust me when I say, nobody cares what brand of esk8 you ride.
So weird seeing the FB group popup here again. I guess I’ll defend it by saying it’s been nothing but helpful for me. If you’ve been part of any specific community like that, it’s usually a lot of “patting on the back” but that’s the fun of the group.
To each his own. Sorry you get that from the group, I consider myself fairly active there (not at an admin or anything) and it’s a bummer that others view it that way. But for others reading it’s been super helpful for me and Alex posts there all the time, so it’s easier to get answers than cloggin up his already clogged up email.
@SeanHacker, you’re in PDX right? Are the OneWheelers that bad, lol? I’ve seen them on the MAX here and there and had a quick conversation with one … now I’m curious about their Friday rides!
Ah, gotcha. I’ve watched a couple videos but I don’t really like cruising through downtown as much I like cruising around neighborhoods (I live right on the edge of PDX in Beaverton near Nike) so we have some pretty smooth streets. I rode the Zoo to East side and man, while the board handled the potholes just fine, it was just annoying stopping and going so much.
As far as I can tell none of the ‘intolerables’ are on here I remember our exchange further up this thread. It’s difficult to convey how I feel about this on a text based forum. I’m not having a go at anyone in particular, and especially not the owners of the brand. They seem to be super helpful and really care about their customers, which is what you want from any company for sure.
It’s just during the run up to the release the FB group posts kept popping up in my feed, probably since I’ve made one or two posts in the group and due to the way FB works the app then bombards you with further posts for a bit until you stop looking. I guess it’s the same for any hobby and you’ll always get some people who shout the loudest and perhaps you wished they didn’t. It was funny for a bit, watching from the sidelines, but enough was enough for me so I’ll just leave them to their high fiving and general dissing of everything else out there. Maybe I’ll meet one out and about one day. Will be fun to see if they can keep up with me
Let’s just say it. Stuck up assholes. The world is full of it. Oh well. I deleted my FB a long time ago and I can’t access my old one to delete it. I’ve realized a long time ago fb is for fake people doing fake things to show the world they are important to someone who doesn’t care. I too felt the snobbery from those esk8 groups on fb recently when I had a joint fb with the wifey. I’ve been a mechanic my whole life and it’s the same everywhere. People by the BMW for the status not the Toyota for the reliability. God forbid you own a Hyundai! That’s just not my look on life. Maybe its my brother in laws. Rebels don’t come from the Apple store. We are the streets, molded by the streets, and we set our own rules. Following the crowd to the slaughter or pull out before it’s too late… btw the new board and trucks look great. But overcharging people for a status. Maybe Gucci will make one next.
