Lots of people put hook up battery packs in parallel. If you search the onewheel forums for VNR you’ll see that. Heck on my Plus I can throw on a fully charged battery to a near empty Onewheel battery and the type of cells can handle the fast charging.
I’m not sure on the size of the rails for this DIY kit, but I suspect it’ll be Pint size based on using the bumpers, so using 18650 12s2p may be possible, but more without extended rails probably isn’t going to work at this point.
The OP has printed 99wh on the battery which is locked via the BMS until you connect to it, I’m not sure on the legality of this, but you can carry 2x 160Wh batteries on a plane relatively easily, I’ve done that with my OW plus and Ego battery all over the world.
At the worst, this is an extreme fire hazard which can cause personal injury, and at the best, this is severely degrading the lifetime of your battery.
This would work better and be safer on LiFePO4 chemistry, also.
This only applies to hooking up a full pack to an empty one, discharging them in parallel is fine and people do it all the time, that is the whole point of vamp and ride.
I ordered the kit a bit ago. Can’t wait for it to ship. Whenever it shows up, I’ll make some nice content on it, including the build and riding, and likely some content on making other batteries for it. My content is expanding to DIY, and I have a bit of a series on other Onewheel type boards.
Anyway, I’ve been waiting for something like this. It’s pretty great to see a polished product.
Bought a kit For us who can’t get a Onewheel into our country that easy this looks like a great option. However I’m a bit concerned about the electronics. Do you have designs to 3d print a battery box, the VESC needs to be attached to the plate as a heatsink so that’s not so easy to waterproof I imagine.
Do you have an estimated kV for us? I can imagine you get bombarded with requests right now so I don’t mind the delay but I really like to know what kV I can expect.
For calculating expected speeds with diffrent cell chemestries or just going 10S for example.
I think you can fly with my pack as i mentioned on the site, we marked 95wh for you to sneak thru security check, not marked as 222wh, also be nice to people please, read some more post on battrey packs, sure you can fly with any pack within 99wh.
I fly with my boards all the time, 99wh is the way to go, security will let you pass, no questions asked , done that like a million times ,just make sure you detach the pack from the board and show them the sticker. if you dont have a 99wh pack, discharge it completely, make sure your pack is super well constructed (like ours), then you put a sticker on it says 99wh and call it a day, with 4 screws you can easily pop this pack out and put on new ones, if I were to design any small ev im gonna do it this way, 12s1p is enough for 99% of the time, change my mind lol, plus you can swap em out! dont carry dead weight under your feet, that be kinda stupid, running all the cells you dont use up for like 99% of the time. if 1% time hits you, you can swap em out with 4screws in 1minute or less. thats the prupose of this kit, a decent range pint that doesnt look chinese, yet swapable battey packs, and it goes on airplane witout any issues.
